This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the core applications for the IPO's live systems are improved and maintained. We are currently working on an exciting transformation journey which will modernise these systems using several technologies to build enterprise grade services. As this journey progresses the successful applicant will be given the opportunity to move into this area and have a high level input in defining their development in learning new tools.
As the Senior Software Developer it involves working as part of a multi disciplined Agile team using several technologies to build and maintain enterprise grade services. The successful applicant will be expected to be proactive and take accountability for the teams assigned deliveries.
There is also a requirement for investigation, diagnosis and fix of any system issues. As well as this the role will involve actively contributing to continuous improvement, establish standards and methods aligned to industry best practice and provide support to team members.
A demonstrable track record in the essential skills is necessary, along with experience of several of the desirable skills. Alongside this a willingness to learn new technologies/methods and look into developing and maturing existing skills will be expected.
Working Style
This role will be carried out in-line with IPO Hybrid working arrangements where staff are currently expected to spend at least 20% of their time working onsite from one of our offices. This role is based in our Newport Office.
The requirement for attendance at an office location can vary by role so we would encourage candidates to discuss working arrangements with the recruiting manager to agree a reasonable balance between working from home and the office.
The IPO holds a visa sponsor licence however; this role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. Candidates will therefore need to have an existing right to work in the UK at the time of application.

Job description
Main duties consist of but are not limited to:
- Take responsibility for the design, coding, testing and documentation of small scale to large, complex or mission critical programs
- Develop quality solutions that are fit for purpose in line with Agile Principles and Development Standards.
- Responsible for ensuring that the team build and test activities follow agreed governance and processes
- Look for innovation opportunities, using a fail-fast model to encourage innovation
- Implement toolkits and APIs for purposes such as integration, performance optimisation, security and scalability
- Engage Stakeholders (for mutually beneficial collaborative relationships outside of the team)
- Work within a multi-disciplinary teams to deliver highly focused and successful IPO IT Services
- Provide team and project support when required
- Applies progress over perfection principle
- Takes full responsibility for decisions and delivers
- Inner composure recovers quickly from setbacks and learns from the experience
- Highly driven & inspires others to move things along and make things happen
- Take responsibility for your own training and development

Essential Criteria
- Has been a key player in delivering technical solutions as part of small and/or large projects
- Excellent understanding of a mainstream development language, .Net (C#)
- Experience in web services, REST
- Experience with modern delivery models such as Agile Scrum / DevOps
- Advocate of Agile principles
- Experience of using Azure DevOps, Azure pipelines
- Knowledge of the use of Github
- Completed AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals
- Familiar with Java

Stage 2 - Interviews
If successful at sift candidates will then be invited to an interview where you will be assessed on Behaviours, Experience, Technical and Strengths

Interviews for this role will be carried out in person at our Newport Office.
The successful candidate would be expected to remain in the role for a minimum of 12 months before applying for another role.
