Job Description

Job Number 9757 Standard Job Description Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is seeking a Test Engineer to join the emerging-technology Sensor Fusion team. You will play a pivotal role in validating and verifying sensor-fusion capabilities, analyzing requirements, and develop test cases for next-generation fighter. Your work will ensure that novel sensor concepts are robust, flight-ready, and meet the rigorous performance standards required by advanced aerospace systems.

What You'll Do

  • Develop Test Strategies & Plans - Create comprehensive verification and validation (V&V) test strategies for sensor-fusion software, including unit, integration, system, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
  • Design & Execute Test Cases - Write detailed test cases and test scripts (manual and automated) that exercise algorithm functionality, edge-case scenarios, and real-world sensor data streams.
  • Build Test Infrastructure - Implement and maintain automated test frameworks, test harnesses, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) to run regression suites on target hardware and simulators.
  • Perform Data Collection & Analysis - Capture sensor data, ground-truth measurements, and algorithm outputs; analyze results using statistical methods to quantify accuracy, latency, and reliability.
  • Coordinate Cross-Disciplinary Reviews - Work closely with algorithm, software, and hardware engineers to identify defects, trace requirements to test artifacts, and drive issue resolution.
  • Document Findings - Produce clear, standards-compliant test reports, defect logs, and traceability matrices that support certification and program milestones.
  • Support Continuous Improvement - Contribute to process improvements, test-procedure standardization, and tooling enhancements across the Sensor Fusion group. Why Join Us?
  • Impactful Work - Directly influence the reliability and safety of mission-critical sensor-fusion systems for next-generation aircraft.
  • Cutting-Edge Technology - Work with state-of-the-art sensors, high-performance computing platforms, and advanced simulation environments.
  • Collaborative Culture - Join a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and program managers committed to innovation.
  • Career Growth - Access to Lockheed Martin's extensive training resources, mentorship programs, and clear advancement paths. If you are passionate about rigorous testing, love solving complex verification challenges, and want to ensure that breakthrough sensor technologies transition smoothly from concept to flight, we invite you to apply for the Test Engineer role on our Sensor Fusion team.

Basic Qualifications Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with embedded test rigs, real-time operating systems, and timing analysis tools.
  • Ability to execute tests on representative flight-hardware platforms (e.g., ARM, FPGA).
  • Proficiency with test-management tools (e.g., Jira, IBM DOORS) and maintaining traceability to system requirements.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to present test outcomes to multidisciplinary teams and senior leadership.
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, C# or MATLAB for test script development.
  • Experience with test-automation frameworks (e.g., pytest, Robot Framework, Google Test).
  • Use of Simulink/MATLAB for model-in-the-loop (MIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.

Desired Skills Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience testing sensor-fusion software in aerospace or defense.
  • Knowledge of LIDAR, RADAR, EO/IR cameras
  • Experience testing sensor-tasking, prioritization, and information-value metrics.
  • Experience testing data-association techniques (nearest-neighbor, JPDA, MHT) and verifying track continuity under challenging scenarios.
