Kibana Frontend Developer with Security Clearance

Job Description
This role focuses on transforming complex, mission-critical data into clean, reliable, and accessible datasets and delivering actionable insights through advanced analytics and compelling visualizations. As a key member of the Real-Time Visibility team within a fast-paced, Agile environment, you will design and develop a unified user experience and user interface that provides a holistic, single-pane-of-glass view on a leading visualization platform.

You will collaborate closely with operational users and support teams to understand business needs, build intuitive dashboards, and ensure that analytics directly support operational decision-making and mission success. This is a hybrid role based near Scott Air Force Base, requiring full-time onsite support and close coordination with a geographically dispersed team. Responsibilities
Gather, clean, and validate data from multiple sources to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability.

Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that address operational and business questions. Design and develop interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations using a primary visualization platform, ensuring that findings are clear, intuitive, and actionable for stakeholders. Apply core visual design and UI principles, including visual hierarchy, proximity, similarity, font selection, color theory, and accessibility guidelines, to create effective user interfaces.

Architect, design, and develop a unified UX/UI that provides a holistic single-pane-of-glass interface on the visualization platform. Work with operational end users and support teams to perform requirements analysis and translate user needs into UI mockups, wireframes, and final implementations. Translate analytical results into actionable recommendations and present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Engage with stakeholders to understand business needs, operational challenges, and data requirements, and incorporate this feedback into analytics and visualization solutions. Refine and maintain data transformation pipelines to ensure data quality, reliability, and alignment with business logic. Develop and maintain self-service analytics tools and reusable data assets that empower end users to explore and use data independently. Document data models, business logic, transformation processes, and analytics workflows to support transparency, reuse, and knowledge sharing.

Collaborate closely with data engineers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to deliver integrated data and visualization solutions. Contribute to Agile development activities, including design, implementation, testing, and iteration of analytics and visualization features. Support application integration design and coordinate effectively with virtual and geographically dispersed teams.

Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical discipline.
8+ years of relevant experience in data analytics, visualization, or a closely related field. Demonstrable experience designing and building data visualizations and dashboards using a leading visualization platform (such as Kibana or similar). Hands-on experience with data cleaning, transformation, and analysis using tools such as Python (including libraries like pandas and numpy), SQL, or R.

Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and data pipeline development. Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and actionable insights. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data findings clearly to diverse technical and non-technical audiences. Experience using version control systems such as Git and working within collaborative development environments (e.g., Git/Bitbucket). Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to data quality and reliability.

Strong communication and documentation skills to support collaboration and knowledge sharing. Experience in application integration design and effective collaboration with virtual teams. Ability to obtain an interim Secret DoD security clearance before the start date. Ability to obtain Security+ certification or an equivalent DoD 8570 IAT II certification within 14 days of the start date. Ability to commute to Scott Air Force Base in Illinois for full-time onsite support.

Additional Skills and Qualifications
Experience with Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana) for data analysis, search, and visualization. Experience with other data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms. Experience developing self-service analytics solutions and reusable data assets. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management tools such as JIRA and Confluence. Experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and big data technologies. Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance best practices.

Experience documenting data models, business logic, and transformation processes. Experience working in mission-driven or operational environments. Experience developing and deploying software in a Department of Defense environment; DISA experience is a plus. Experience with DISA environments and knowledge of network routing devices and network device configurations. Experience with text mining tools and techniques, including using the ELK Stack for summarization, search, and entity extraction. Familiarity with CI/CD techniques, containerized pipelines, and DevOps practices.

Familiarity with Kubernetes deployment and related cloud-native technologies. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, including networking and security policies. Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, including Scrum and SAFe. Experience working remotely with a geographically dispersed team. Work Environment
This position operates within a digital modernization and real-time operations environment that emphasizes Agile development, rapid iteration, and close collaboration with operational users.

The role is hybrid, but requires full-time onsite support at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, so you must be within commuting distance. You will work with modern data and analytics technologies, including Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), Python, SQL, R, and version control tools such as Git and Bitbucket, as well as visualization platforms like Kibana, Tableau, or Power BI. The team leverages Agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA and Confluence, and may operate within CI/CD pipelines, containerized environments, and Kubernetes-based deployments.

You will collaborate with a geographically dispersed team, often in a virtual setting, and engage directly with operational stakeholders in a secure DoD environment that requires at least a Secret clearance and adherence to security and compliance best practices. The work setting is professional and mission-driven, with a focus on reliability, data quality, and delivering intuitive, user-centered dashboards and interfaces.
