Job description

An established MEP contractor is hiring a Mechanical Project Manager into its Blackburn office, to run mechanical delivery across its healthcare, education and public sector work.

The business has been delivering building services for close to forty years, with a second office in Yorkshire and design, installation and maintenance all handled in house. More than eighty of its engineers served their apprenticeship there, which tells you most of what you need to know about how long people stay.

The work runs across healthcare, education, leisure, local authority, residential and commercial, from upgrades inside live hospital departments through to decarbonisation schemes in schools.

  • Manage mechanical projects from mobilisation through commissioning, handover and close-out
  • Deliver HVAC, heating, plumbing and public health installations, including low-carbon systems
  • Plan and sequence works in occupied sites such as hospitals, schools and care settings
  • Lead in-house engineers and subcontractors on site
  • Coordinate with the in-house design and electrical teams
  • Act as the main point of contact for clients and main contractors on mechanical matters
  • Manage programmes, procurement, cost reporting and variations alongside the commercial team
  • Oversee testing, commissioning and O&M documentation
  • Maintain health, safety and quality standards throughout

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Project Manager with an M&E or mechanical contractor
  • A record of delivering projects end to end, rather than picking them up part way through
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, heating, ventilation and plumbing
  • Experience in healthcare, education, leisure or public sector settings
  • Confident managing clients, site teams and subcontractors
  • Commercial awareness across programme and cost control
  • A relevant building services qualification such as an HNC, plus SMSTS and CSCS
  • A full UK driving licence

Decarbonisation or low-carbon heating experience is useful but not essential. It is a growing part of the workload rather than a requirement to get through the door.

  • £65,000 to £70,000 depending on experience, plus a full benefits package
  • A business that has been doing this for nearly forty years, with the retention to show for it
  • Design, installation and maintenance in house, so you are not managing around gaps
  • Varied work across healthcare, education, leisure and local authority
  • A growing share of decarbonisation and low-carbon work

Nothing is sent to the client until you have seen who they are and said yes.
