Job description
onsemi is seeking a talented and highly motivated Device Engineer for our semiconductor fabrication facility in Syracuse, NY.
onsemi is a leading innovator in semiconductor technology, dedicated to advancing power electronics through cutting‑edge research and development. Our technology enables the next generation of power conversion, accelerating the transition to high-efficiency, high-power conversion solutions and inspiring new power system architectures.
The focus of this role is yield enhancement, , new product introduction, and other sustaining/optimization activities. You will work with other engineers and technicians in a fast-paced wafer fab environment that delivers vertical GaN technology. This position will build upon your semiconductor device knowledge across the entire fabrication process flow (from bare wafers to finished goods), with a significant focus on fab manufacturability. Communication skills will be important, since this position regularly interfaces with in-house fab process engineering, technology development, failure analysis, design/layout, wafer probe/test, in-line defect control, quality, and GaN division leadership.
- Drive activities in vertical GaN transistor yield, performance and reliability improvement
- Enhance the process yield for a new generation of GaN power semiconductor devices
- Analyze wafer-level and product-level electrical test data to quantify yield and identify performance improvement opportunities
- Communicate yield analyses to various teams (process engineering, technology development, failure analysis, packaging, test, and reliability) and management
- Drive structured root‑cause analysis for yield, reliability, or device‑related issues, and implement sustainable corrective solutions
- Improve yield by working with the fab teams to identify root causes and define the experiments to realize gains
- Collaborate with process engineering to define process windows and identify process corners
- MS/PhD or equivalent in Engineering, Electrical Engineering preferred (Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical field will be considered)
- Minimum 8 years of experience in similar job function in semiconductor power devices and circuits; GaN technology experience is preferred but not required
- Broad understanding of semiconductor device processing, process integration, device physics, failure analysis techniques, and reliability improvement of JFETs
- Problem-solving mindset + a proactive approach to problem identification and solution
- Proven ability to use data analysis and statistics to reach conclusions and drive improvement
- Experience with Design of Experiments (DOEs), statistics for manufacturing engineering, and structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys) is preferred but not required.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced development environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and a team player with strong interpersonal skills.
onsemi is excited to share the base salary range for this position is $88,700.00-$142,000.00 range exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses.
