Job Description

The key priority is to find resources with strong expertise in implementing and supporting (not simply using) OpenShift. Candidates should also have experience with Ansible development, and some familiarity with system administration, and infrastructure as described below.

We are seeking an experienced Ansible/OpenShift Automation Engineer to design, implement, and support air-gapped, classified OpenShift Container Platform environments. The role blends deep Ansible expertise with hands-on OpenShift implementation, security-hardening (STIG/NIST), and the ability to automate Windows workloads via KubeVirt. The successful candidate will work closely with Platform Engineering, Security, and Network teams to deliver a secure, repeatable, and compliant container platform for mission-critical defense applications.

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain reusable Ansible Collections, playbooks, roles, and custom modules for Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP)
Engineer disconnected/air-gapped OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) 4.x installations: repository mirroring, registry pull-through, Satellite/Content Delivery, and secure image management
Integrate Ansible automation with OpenShift Advanced Cluster Management (ACM), OpenShift GitOps to drive end-to-end CI/CD
Build and maintain Helm v3 charts and associated GitOps manifests for enterprise-grade applications
Provision and configure Windows VM workloads via KubeVirt, including domain join, driver installation, and post-provision hardening (PowerShell/Ansible)
Implement and enforce DoD STIG / NIST 800-53 security baselines on OpenShift clusters, nodes, and supporting infrastructure
Author comprehensive runbooks, SOPs, and technical documentation (Ansible docs, cluster diagrams, security checklists)
Troubleshoot complex failures across the stack: Ansible playbook errors, OpenShift control-plane issues, networking (OVN-k, SR-IOV), storage (Ceph/ODF), and container runtime problems
Collaborate with Platform Engineering, Security, and Network teams to define automation requirements and drive continuous-improvement
Develop system administration jobs and runbooks in Bash or Python

Qualifications
6+ years of professional IT experience; 3+ years focused on Ansible automation at enterprise scale. Proven expertise in Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and building Ansible Collections for OpenShift. Deep hands-on experience with OpenShift Container Platform 4.x installation (including disconnected/air-gapped), upgrade, post-install configuration, and day-2 operations. Demonstrated ability to deploy OpenShift in high-security, classified environments (U.S. citizenship, active Secret clearance or higher preferred).

Strong knowledge of DoD STIG, NIST 800-53, and other hardening frameworks; experience authoring compliance automation. Proficiency in Python, Bash, and PowerShell; comfortable writing custom Ansible modules and CLI tools. Experience with Helm v3 chart development and management in GitOps workflows. Familiarity with KubeVirt, Windows VM provisioning, and virtualization drivers. Solid understanding of bare-metal provisioning, networking (OVN-k, VLANs, SR-IOV), and storage (Ceph, OpenShift Data Foundation, GlusterFS).

Hands-on with CI/CD tools: Argo CD, GitOps Operator, OpenShift Pipelines (Tekton), Jenkins/GitLab, and automation orchestration tools such as Rundeck. Experience with Red Hat Satellite/Content Delivery, disconnected registry mirroring, and image pull-through for air-gapped sites. Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to produce clear runbooks, SOPs, and compliance documentation. Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent professional experience.
