Job Description

Associate - Cyber Incident Response & Digital Risk

Be at the forefront of cyber, privacy and digital risk. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate to join a specialist team working at the intersection of law, technology and crisis management. This is a chance to move beyond traditional legal practice and work on complex, high-stakes matters where organisations need immediate, commercially focused advice in response to cyber incidents, data breaches and digital crises.

You'll work alongside leading practitioners, cyber specialists and crisis management professionals, advising clients when the stakes are high and the response matters most.

The opportunity

You'll work directly with clients and senior practitioners on matters involving:

  • Cyber incidents, data breaches and privacy events.
  • Privacy law, regulatory notifications and compliance strategy.
  • Crisis response, stakeholder management and government engagement.
  • Cross-border incident coordination.
  • Post-incident remediation, risk mitigation and organisational resilience.

You'll also collaborate with digital forensic specialists, cyber intelligence teams, crisis communications experts and other technical professionals, gaining exposure to a rapidly evolving area of legal practice.

About you

We're interested in speaking with an Associate who has experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Privacy, technology or regulatory law.
  • Commercial litigation, disputes or investigations.
  • Cyber security or data protection-related matters.

You don't need extensive cyber, privacy or incident response experience - limited exposure is fine if you have strong commercial judgement, a genuine interest in digital risk and the motivation to build your career in this evolving space.

Direct cyber incident response experience isn't essential.

This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer looking to transition into cyber, privacy and digital risk, with the support and mentoring to develop specialist expertise.

Why consider this opportunity?
  • Work on high-profile, complex matters with real client impact.
  • Learn directly from experienced senior practitioners.
  • Build expertise in one of the fastest-growing areas of legal practice.
  • Enjoy a market-leading bonus structure and merit-based progression, without traditional PQE ceilings.
  • Benefit from hybrid working, genuine flexibility and AI-enabled systems.
  • Contribute to meaningful pro bono initiatives.
  • Work in a collaborative, innovative environment that values professional development and wellbeing.

Take your career in a different direction. If you're curious about technology, enjoy solving complex problems and want to build a career in a dynamic area of law, this role offers the opportunity to develop a distinctive specialisation while working on matters that genuinely matter.

At Empire Group, we value diversity and are committed to equitable recruitment. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, people with disability, and other underrepresented groups to apply.
