Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced VMware vSAN SME to design, implement, configure, optimize, and support VMware vSAN and virtualization infrastructure in an enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in VMware vSphere, vSAN, ESXi, networking, storage, and data center technologies, with the ability to lead complex implementations, migrations, troubleshooting, and optimization initiatives.
The SME will work closely with infrastructure, network, storage, security, application, and operations teams to ensure highly available, secure, scalable, and resilient VMware environments.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with VMware vSAN and VMware vSphere in large enterprise environments.
- Strong knowledge of ESXi, vCenter Server, vSphere HA, DRS, vMotion, and Distributed Switches.
- In-depth understanding of vSAN architecture, storage policies, data placement, resilience, and performance.
- Strong knowledge of datacenter networking, including VLANs, MTU, routing, TCP/IP, and network redundancy.
- Experience with VMware cluster design, sizing, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
- Experience troubleshooting complex VMware infrastructure and vSAN issues.
- Knowledge of enterprise storage concepts such as RAID, IOPS, latency, SSD/NVMe, flash storage, and storage performance.
- Experience with VMware lifecycle management, upgrades, patching, and hardware compatibility.
- Knowledge of virtualization security and VMware security best practices.
- Experience with PowerCLI or other automation/scripting technologies is desirable.
- Experience with VMware Aria Operations or similar monitoring and capacity-management tools is desirable.
Experience & Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in VMware virtualization and enterprise infrastructure, with significant hands-on experience in VMware vSAN.
- Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise VMware/vSAN solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex VMware migrations, upgrades, and infrastructure transformation projects.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently as a technical SME while collaborating effectively with global infrastructure and application teams.
- VMware certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) are highly desirable.
- Experience with infrastructure automation and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts.
