The Job

Mountain Valley Maintenance is hiring maintenance laborers for our outdoor crew. In winter you shovel, plow, and clear snow and ice from the walkways, stairs, and driveways of the associations we take care of. In summer you mow, trim, plant, and keep the same properties looking good. This is a year-round job with the same hours and the same paycheck in January and July. No seasonal layoff.

You will work on a crew of 4 to 6 under a bilingual Maintenance Foreman who gives instructions in Spanish or English. You do not need to speak English to do this job well. We have been a stable employer in the Vail Valley for over 20 years, and many of our crew members have been with us for years.

What You Will Do

Winter: Snow and Ice

• Shovel and snow-blow walkways, stairs, entries, and decks at association properties
• Spread deicer and sand, and clear ice from high-traffic areas
• Help the plow driver with driveways and parking areas, and clear around vehicles and dumpsters
• Start at 4am on storm days so residents can get out safely; rotate weekend storm coverage with the crew

Summer: Lawn and Grounds

• Mow, edge, and trim lawns with commercial mowers and string trimmers
• Plant flowers and shrubs, spread mulch, pull weeds, and clean beds
• Rake, blow, and haul away leaves, branches, and debris
• Help with irrigation repairs and seasonal startup and shutdown

All Year

• Haul materials, load and unload trucks and trailers, and keep tools and equipment clean
• Help with painting, staining, minor repairs, and property cleanup projects
• Drive company trucks between properties
• Clock in and out on your phone and take a few photos of finished work

What You Need

Required

• Valid driver's license and a driving record we can insure
• Able to work outside all year in snow, ice, cold, heat, and at altitude
• Able to lift and carry 50 pounds, shovel for long stretches, and be on your feet all day
• Able to start at 4am on storm days and take your turn on weekend snow coverage
• Reliable: you show up on time, every day, ready to work
• Authorized to work in the United States

Helpful, Not Required

• Experience with snow removal, landscaping, mowing, or construction labor
• Experience with commercial mowers, snow blowers, or small equipment
• Basic English (we will help you learn on the job)

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Essential functions of this position, performed with or without reasonable accommodation: works outdoors year-round in all mountain weather including snow, ice, heat, and altitude. Constantly stands and walks on uneven, sloped, or icy ground. Frequently shovels, lifts, carries, and positions materials and equipment up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 80 pounds with a team lift. Frequently bends, kneels, pushes, pulls, and reaches; occasionally climbs ladders. Operates mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other powered hand equipment for extended periods. Drives company trucks between properties. Winter schedule includes early-morning and on-call storm response.

Pay

• $24 to $28 per hour based on experience, paid every two weeks by direct deposit
• Overtime at 1.5 times your regular rate for hours over 40 in a week or over 12 in a day
• $1,000 snow season retention bonus, paid when you complete the winter season with us
• Annual raises, and no cut in hours or pay during slow seasons
