We are seeking an Operational Accountant to join our finance team, supporting key operational and fleet functions across the business. This is a highly visible role where you'll work closely with operational leaders, providing financial insight, performance analysis, and commercial support to drive informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
This opportunity would suit a qualified, part-qualified, or qualified-by-experience accountant who enjoys partnering with stakeholders, analysing performance, and influencing business outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare weekly and monthly fleet profit and loss accounts, including detailed commentary and variance analysis.
- Produce regular fleet performance reports to support operational decision-making and financial control.
- Develop and enhance fleet, asset, and Repair & Maintenance (R&M) reporting, providing meaningful insights to the wider business.
- Reconcile fleet assets across multiple systems and support asset lifecycle management, including renewals and disposals.
- Deliver financial analysis and business cases to support strategic decisions relating to fleet operations and investment.
- Manage nominal ledger activities, including journals, accruals, cross-charges, and period-end reconciliations.
- Provide detailed performance analysis and trend reporting, identifying opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Present financial and KPI performance results to operational and senior management teams.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and summaries, highlighting risks, opportunities, and key areas of focus.
- Ensure strong financial governance and controls are maintained across fleet operations.
- Lead the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes in collaboration with operational stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Support audit activities and act as a key contact during internal and external audit reviews.
- Work closely with finance and operational teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across financial reporting processes and management information.
- Previous experience in a Management Accountant, Operational Accountant, or Finance Business Partner role.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commercial mindset.
- Experience preparing management accounts, forecasts, and budgets.
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large data sets.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- The ability to translate financial information into clear business insights.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
- Part-qualified, fully qualified, or qualified by experience (ACCA, CIMA, ACA desirable).
