Job Description

Purpose and Impact: Are you interested in using your skills to help shape the Cyber, Security, & Intel space? If so, look no further. Amentum is seeking a Data Center Operations Lead to join our team of passionate individuals at Fort Meade, MD. In this role you will support challenging, mission-critical projects that make a direct impact on the Nation's security and intelligence mission.

In support of DISA, Amentum's Intel and Cyber Division is expanding a proven team of highly skilled engineers and architects to support a program that provides critical IT capabilities to the Department of Defense. This team is committed to engineering, assembling, integrating, deploying, and sustaining an innovative IT enterprise solution. Our team delivers secure, mission-critical capabilities where system integrity and rapid deployment are paramount. We are seeking a Lead Configuration Management Specialist who combines meticulous technical discipline with strategic foresight.

In this role, you will lead efforts to establish and maintain robust baselines in a rapidly evolving operational environment. Success requires the ability to navigate complex, unique technical challenges independently while fostering collaborative solutions across integrated teams. To excel, you must possess a proactive learning mindset and the agility to rapidly master and govern the integration of next-generation systems and services.

Work Schedule: 8 Hours per day, Monday thru Friday Essential Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Configuration Management Specialist, Lead include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure integrity, availability, and reliability of configuration baselines across hybrid environments, including physical hardware, virtualized infrastructure, cloud assets, and software deployment pipelines.
  • Manage the configuration management database (CMDB) within ServiceNow and ticketing workflows in Jira/Confluence to track Configuration Items (CIs), map system dependencies, and maintain a single source of truth.
  • Define and enforce Configuration Management Plans (CMPs), policies, and Procedures (TTPs) aligned with ITIL framework best practices, IEEE standards, and organizational mandates.
  • Establish and govern change management processes, leading Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) to evaluate, approve, and schedule changes while minimizing risks and scheduling Authorized Service Interruptions (ASIs).
  • Ensure strict compliance with NIST SP 800-53 security controls, DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and DoD IL5 baseline requirements through continuous configuration auditing and vulnerability remediation tracking.
  • Performance management - Define, track, and report configuration management metrics, database health, audit findings, and SLA compliance to program leadership and strategic partners.
  • Translate complex engineering requirements and system architecture changes into clear configuration baselines and communicate technical risks or deviations to executive leadership.
  • Organize and lead regular configuration audits (Physical and Functional Configuration Audits - PCAs/FCAs) to verify that the deployed operational state perfectly mirrors the documented baseline.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Systems Engineers, and Cross-Functional Leads to seamlessly transition new systems, services, and software releases into the operational baseline.
  • Conduct trend analysis on configuration drift and unauthorized changes. Through continuous process improvement, identify root causes of drift and implement automated discovery or enforcement solutions.
  • Establish responsibility matrices (RACI) for configuration ownership, train technical staff on baseline procedures, and manage the incident response protocol for configuration-related outages or discrepancies.
  • Lead site and system readiness reviews, verify baseline compatibility, produce Configuration Item Bill of Materials (BOMs), and assist in the creation of transition checklists for multi-environment deployments. Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

  • Proven experience implementing and auditing configurations against federal and defense frameworks, including ITIL, NIST SP 800-53 security controls, IEEE standards, and DISA STIGs.
  • Hands-on technical depth in configuration auditing (Physical and Functional Configuration Audits - PCAs/FCAs), baseline verification, and configuration drift detection to independently audit system states.
  • Active DoD 8140/8570.01-M Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent) to meet DISA operational requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of Agile frameworks (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban) and DevOps/DevSecOps continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
