Conversational AI Engineer

Role: Principal Engineer – Conversational AI

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Principal Engineer to serve as the technical authority for Digital across the conversational AI stack and channel integrations.

This role requires a strong technical leader who can write production code, own architecture and design documentation, conduct technical reviews, and troubleshoot complex engineering challenges. The Principal Engineer will establish and maintain architectural direction across conversational AI, large language models (LLMs), and channel integrations while influencing engineering teams and ensuring technical consistency across the organization.

The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on engineering expertise with the technical credibility and leadership skills needed to guide senior engineers, challenge architectural decisions when necessary, and drive alignment across multiple teams.

Important: This is a deeply hands-on engineering role, not a strategy-only or advisory position. Candidates who focus exclusively on high-level architecture, presentations, or PowerPoint documentation without actively contributing to engineering work will not be considered.

Required Technical Skills and Experience:

• Strong hands-on experience in Conversational AI, Natural Language Understanding (NLU), and Large Language Model (LLM) integration.

• Experience designing and implementing dialog orchestration and conversational AI solutions.

• Strong expertise in API design, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.

• Experience integrating digital channels, including contact center platforms, e-commerce applications, and mobile platforms.

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.

• Strong understanding of event-driven architectures, scalable application design, and modern AI/ML tooling.

• Proven ability to write code, debug complex issues, review implementations, and translate architectural designs into working solutions.

• Experience producing technical design documents, conducting architecture reviews, and establishing engineering best practices.
