Job Description

An investment firm is seeking a Software Engineer to work inside a business group, beside quantitative researchers and management, instead of in a centralized technology department. AI is central to the role: the hire will help shape how LLMs, agentic workflows and AI tooling are used in the investment process.

Responsibilities

  • Develop FastAPI-based services on AWS that put portfolio, market and quant data in front of investment staff
  • Run and grow Prefect-orchestrated data pipelines in Docker and Kubernetes, with a focus on reliability and observability
  • Work with central technology partners to put AI to use for the business, using MCP servers, agentic workflows and several LLM providers
  • Maintain a documented, reusable, model-agnostic collection of AI plugins and skills for investment staff
  • Design and own relational databases that support research, portfolio and day-to-day operations work
  • Write clean, maintainable code and support good engineering practice, including CI/CD and version control

Requirements

  • 2+ years in quantitative development, analytics engineering or quantitative analysis at a bank, hedge fund, asset manager or financial data provider
  • Strong Python, with object-oriented design and tidy codebases; good command of SQL and relational database design
  • Production experience deploying backend services and APIs (FastAPI or similar)
  • Hands-on LLM work across several providers: prompt design, tool calling, retrieval-augmented pipelines
  • Practical familiarity with MCP servers, agentic frameworks or multi-model orchestration
  • Day-to-day use of AI-assisted development tools
  • AWS, containers (Docker, Kubernetes), infrastructure as code and workflow orchestration (Prefect, Airflow or similar)
  • Proactive and product-minded, comfortable with evolving requirements and with technical and non-technical colleagues; curious about financial markets

Nice to have

  • Dashboards or lightweight front ends (Streamlit, React)
  • Alternative data or vendor API integration
  • Prior experience at an investment firm
