Job Description

Senior Systems Engineer

Location: Remote, with occasional travel to a client site in the South of England and to the Bath office

Sector: TMTS (Technology, Media, Telecoms & Services)

Day Rate: £800/day inside IR35

About the Role: As a Senior Systems Engineer you will work with our customer and industry partners on a programme of national importance supporting and improving UK Air Traffic Management (ATM) infrastructure. You'll be given the opportunity to grow and take on responsibility from day one in a challenging, customer-facing environment.

What You'll Do:

  • Explore and understand our customer's domain, needs and programme, including Legacy systems, systems context and target value
  • Act as a proactive senior systems engineering lead, responsible for understanding and specifying aspects of the problem and solution
  • Define and plan the systems engineering needed to derive definitive specifications from high-level requirements
  • Lead a small, multi-disciplined team of systems engineers, and domain and engineering specialists
  • Be the engineering point of contact for aspects of the problem and solution
  • Engage with stakeholders and specialists at a range of organisational levels
  • Manage team delivery to quality, schedule and budget
  • Carry out hands-on systems engineering, including analysing and modelling large data sets, documents and Legacy systems (with the help of AI/LLM assistants), and specifying solutions with traceability using ISO 15288-aligned requirements and MBSE frameworks
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team to specify and integrate complex safety-critical systems, evaluating operational processes, use-cases and non-functional properties such as safety, security, reliability, maintainability and usability
  • Develop strong client relationships and domain knowledge, mentor team members and contribute to capability development

Your Profile

Essential:

  • Engineering or science degree, with 10+ years' experience delivering high-integrity systems engineering projects in a regulated industry
  • Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards and systems engineering processes across the full life cycle, including requirements management, system specification, verification & validation and systems integration
  • Experience in customer-facing, systems engineering lead roles delivering safety-critical systems
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong customer relationships, with proven stakeholder management and experience leading teams to deliver high-value outcomes
  • Hands-on experience in stakeholder management, requirements management, authoring natural language specifications, MBSE (SysML/UML) and systems integration
  • Ability to work effectively and autonomously in collaborative, multi-disciplinary environments with strong communication, influencing and presentation skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in Air Traffic Management systems
  • Proficiency with deploying and using Sparx Enterprise Architect
  • Experience using SysML or UML
  • Professional Systems Engineering certification (eg INCOSE CSEP/ESEP), or a clear desire to work towards it
  • Chartered Engineer status, or active progress toward achieving chartership
