Job Description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Jr. System Engineer to support the Navy/Marine Corp enterprise network in Hampton Roads, VA. The team is seeking an individual with technical expertise in system infrastructure administration and security compliance to sustain the enterprise network. Details below: Clearance: Secret Clearance Required Location: Hampton Roads, VA (100% onsite) This job opens for applications on 9/17/2026. Applications for this job will be accepted for at least 30 days from the posting date Responsibilities of the System Administrator:

  • Administer and maintain physical and virtual servers, operating systems, and enterprise storage solutions.
  • Implement and maintain Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and support Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance.
  • Perform vulnerability assessments, system patching, and remediation activities to address security risks.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and workflows using tools such as PowerShell, Ansible, and Jenkins.
  • Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes to ensure data integrity and system availability.
  • Provide Tier II support for complex infrastructure and system issues.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and security across enterprise and defense networks.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, including system diagrams, SOPs, and configuration records.
  • Participate in technology research and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance infrastructure performance and security.
Qualifications of the System Administrator:
  • B.S. and 1-2+ years of system administration experience managing enterprise infrastructure, server operating systems (Windows/Linux), or virtualized environments
  • Currently possess and ability to maintain an active DoD Secret security clearance
  • Minimum of DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II Certification required prior to onboarding and must maintain certification while supporting the SMIT Contract
  • Strong experience administering Windows and/or Linux server environments in enterprise settings.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, STIG implementation, RMF compliance, and vulnerability management.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell, Ansible, Jenkins, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms, enterprise storage solutions, backup technologies, and high-availability architectures.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and provide effective technical support.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience supporting defense, government, or highly regulated environments is preferred.
Compensation of the System Administrator:
  • Total compensation based on experience level - $70,000-$80,000+ **based on experience level**
