We are looking for an Interim CFO to provide senior financial guidance for an organization based in Chico, California. This Long-term Contract opportunity will play a central role in shaping financial direction, supporting executive decision-making, and maintaining strong fiscal stewardship across the organization. The position will oversee core finance operations, ensure accurate reporting and compliance, and help align financial planning with broader organizational objectives.
Partner with executive leaders and governing stakeholders to develop financial strategies that support organizational priorities and long-range planning.
- Direct accounting operations, budgeting cycles, forecasting activities, and cash management processes to maintain financial stability and visibility.
- Prepare and deliver timely financial reports, analyses, and recommendations that inform leadership decisions and operational planning.
- Lead audit preparation and serve as the primary finance contact for external auditors, ensuring organized documentation and efficient coordination.
- Maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting practices, grant conditions, and applicable federal and state financial regulations.
- Oversee financial risk management activities and evaluate fiscal performance through detailed operational and ad hoc analysis.
- Guide financial planning and analysis efforts, including annual planning, performance tracking, and complex modeling to support resource allocation.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop finance staff while promoting a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in controllership, finance leadership, or a closely related accounting role.
- Strong expertise in accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow oversight, and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated background in financial planning and analysis, including annual financial planning and complex analytical work.
- Experience supporting executive leadership and board-level stakeholders with strategic financial insight and recommendations.
- Knowledge of nonprofit financial standards, grant administration, and federal and state regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to lead finance operations, manage risk, and improve financial processes in a complex organization.
- Strong leadership skills with experience coaching and developing high-performing finance teams.
