Senior Interaction Designer - GDS | Central Government | BPSS Eligible

We're supporting a major Central Government programme seeking an experienced Senior Interaction Designer to join a high-performing multidisciplinary team delivering critical digital services. This is an exciting opportunity to shape intuitive, accessible and user-centred experiences that impact citizens nationwide.

Role Details

• Position: Senior Interaction Designer
• Contract Length: 12 Months
• Rate: Up to £629 per day
• IR35 Status: Inside IR35
• Location: Remote with occasional travel to London
• Clearance: Must be eligible for BPSS
• Sector: Central Government

Essential Experience

• Proven experience working as a Senior Interaction Designer within agile, multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong knowledge of GDS standards, design principles and Government Service Manual guidance.
• Experience designing user-centred digital services from discovery through to live.
• Expertise in interaction design, information architecture, navigation structures and user flows.
• Ability to create wireframes, prototypes and high-fidelity designs using industry-standard tools.
• Strong understanding of accessibility standards, including WCAG and inclusive design practices.
• Experience collaborating closely with User Researchers, Service Designers, Content Designers, Developers and Product Managers.
• Confidence presenting design decisions and influencing stakeholders at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead interaction design activities across complex government digital services.
• Design intuitive user journeys, task flows and interactions based on user needs and evidence.
• Develop wireframes, prototypes and design patterns to validate and communicate solutions.
• Ensure services are accessible, usable and aligned to GDS standards.
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to iterate and improve designs.
• Contribute to design assurance, service assessments and continuous improvement activities.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience delivering digital services within Central Government.
• Experience preparing for and supporting GDS Service Assessments.
• Familiarity with UK Government design systems and pattern libraries.
• Experience within Healthcare, NHS or wider Health sector digital programmes would be highly desirable.
• Experience working on complex, high-volume citizen-facing services.
