Job Description

UNIVERSAL Technologies, LLC is seeking an experienced DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) for a hybrid position in New York, NY with proven expertise supporting IBM DB2 V12 or higher on an IBM z/OS platform. Active LinkedIn preferred. The DBA will support mission-critical enterprise systems and work closely with application development, systems, and technical support teams to install and migrate software releases, execute data fixes, perform database recovery and tuning, troubleshoot DB2 environments, and maintain high availability of key database technologies.

***The selected candidate will participate in an on-call rotation and must be available for flexible work hours to support project development and production needs.

***Approximately 36-month project.

MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with four (4) years of satisfactory full-time experience in datacenter engineering and operations, cloud engineering and operations, or complex IT infrastructure engineering; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and eight (8) years of satisfactory full-time experience in datacenter engineering and operations, cloud engineering and operations, or complex IT infrastructure engineering; or
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the requirements above.
  • Proven experience with IBM DB2 V12 or higher on an IBM z/OS platform.
  • Demonstrated experience working with application teams to build and maintain data propagation solutions using IBM InfoSphere Replication Server.
  • Experience administering and supporting IBM InfoSphere Data Replication, including maintaining high availability in mission-critical environments.
  • Experience with CICS Transaction Server.
  • Ability to author REXX scripts.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Assembler code.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and tuning new DB2 databases.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues involving DB2 embedded within COBOL programs.
  • Ability to perform all DB2 database administration functions, including backup and recovery, reorganization, database troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Experience performing database recovery functions and standard database tuning procedures, including RUNSTATS and REORGs.
  • Experience with performance tuning at the DB2 system level and with individual SQL statements and stored procedures.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Transparent Gateway.
  • Knowledge of DB2 UDB, including experience with DB2 Connect.
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting IBM Tivoli LDAP Server running on AIX.
  • Ability to install and manage DB2 on AIX platforms.
  • Deep experience supporting large-scale, enterprise-wide governmental budget and accounting solutions.
  • Experience with IBM IMS database management is preferred, including the ability to perform a checkpoint restore of an IMS database.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills supporting online and batch DB2 programs across production, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), Integrated System Testing (IST), performance testing, and development environments.
  • Ability to work effectively with application development, systems, technical support, and vendor teams.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and work flexible hours as required to support project development and production environments.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

  • Ensure all installation, configuration, and tuning activities for DB2 databases are completed efficiently.
  • Author and validate procedures for database processes.
  • Identify potential issues and develop modifications or updates for DB2 programs.
  • Communicate with Technical Support and provide all elements required for migration, along with specific instructions for production implementation.
  • Assist Systems teams with tool upgrades and participate in Disaster Recovery drills.
  • Define and execute database recovery functions.
  • Define and execute standard database tuning procedures, including RUNSTATS and REORGs.
  • Monitor the health and performance of key database operations, including backup and recovery processes, logging, and system response times.
  • Open, manage, and track support tickets with IBM through resolution.
  • Work with application development teams to install and migrate software releases involving DB2-related tasks.
  • Support the execution of data fixes, including backups and packaging changes for production.
  • Troubleshoot DB2 database issues affecting online and batch programs during production, User Acceptance Testing, Integrated System Testing, performance testing, and development phases.
  • Design and execute technical tests to confirm that vendor and internally developed software solutions address business and technical requirements in accordance with established standards for quality and completeness.
  • Perform all system administration activities for the IBM InfoSphere Data Replication product.
  • Maintain high availability of IBM InfoSphere Data Replication due to its critical role within enterprise financial systems.
  • Support database environments associated with major payroll, pension payroll, and financial management systems.
