Location: Honolulu, Hawaii Reports To: IT Security Manager Clearance Requirement: Secret Clearance Employment Type: Full-Time Job Summary We are seeking a Cyber Security Specialist to support a Department of Defense IT services program. This role is responsible for helping protect sensitive systems and data by implementing cybersecurity controls, monitoring for threats, responding to incidents, and ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity policies and frameworks. The Cyber Security Specialist works closely with IT staff and the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) to maintain a secure, compliant, and resilient IT environment supporting a mission with global impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain cybersecurity policies, procedures, and technical controls in accordance with DoD and NIST standards
- Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities, including security documentation, assessments, and audits
- Conduct routine vulnerability scans and security assessments; analyze results and coordinate remediation efforts
- Monitor security tools, system logs, and alerts to identify potential threats or suspicious activity
- Respond to cybersecurity incidents, document findings, and assist with corrective actions
- Assist with identity and access management, including role-based access control (RBAC) and multi-factor authentication (MFA)
- Prepare and maintain cybersecurity reports, incident documentation, and compliance artifacts
- Support cybersecurity awareness efforts and promote security best practices across the organization
- Work in a DoD-regulated environment to protect classified and unclassified systems
- Partner with IT teams to ensure systems are securely configured and maintained
- Assist the ISSM with continuous monitoring, compliance tracking, and security posture reporting
- Participate in incident response activities and post-incident analysis
- Help ensure vulnerabilities and findings are addressed within required timeline Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen
- Clearance: Active Secret Clearance (or ability to obtain and maintain).
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related field; equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Certifications (minimum one): *
- CompTIA Security+,
- CySA+, CISSP, or * equivalent DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification.
- Experience: 3+ years in a cybersecurity role with hands-on experience in monitoring, vulnerability management, and incident response.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of network security protocols, encryption, and secure configurations.
- Proficiency with SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls, and endpoint security tools (experience with Trellix required).
- Familiarity with NIST SP 800-171, DFARS, CMMC, or related frameworks.
- Experience with eMASS (Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service) for RMF documentation, POA&M tracking, and ATO package management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CEH.
- Prior experience supporting DoD or other federal IT environments.
- Knowledge of cloud security practices for AWS, Azure, or hybrid systems.
- Strong communication skills to explain complex issues to non-technical users. Work Environment & Conditions
- On-site in Honolulu, HI.
- Standard hours: Monday - Friday, 0800-1600 HST, excluding federal holidays.
- Work performed in a secure DoD facility with adherence to cybersecurity policies and training.
- Occasional after-hours or weekend support may be required for security incidents or urgent updates.
- Collaboration with IT, security, and program leadership in a mission-driven setting
