About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Operations Quality Engineer to support a high-precision optical manufacturing environment. This role focuses on ensuring product quality throughout the manufacturing lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on electrical, optical, and mechanical component assembly, integration, inspection, and testing.
The ideal candidate will partner closely with manufacturing, engineering, and operations teams to drive process improvements, investigate product and process issues, implement corrective actions, and ensure compliance with customer and industry quality requirements.
What You'll Do
As an Operations Quality Engineer, you will
Develop, review, and maintain quality standards, inspection methods, work instructions, and test procedures for manufactured and procured products.
Design, analyze, and optimize inspection and test processes, equipment, and measurement systems.
Evaluate product and process test results and perform statistical analysis to assess quality risk and product conformity.
Review manufacturing and quality documentation to ensure compliance with specifications and customer requirements.
Lead or participate in Failure Review Boards (FRBs), technical investigations, and root cause analyses.
Participate as an active member of Material Review Boards (MRBs) and support product disposition activities.
Implement new inspection methodologies, automation solutions, and quality improvement initiatives.
Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to improve manufacturing performance and product quality.
Conduct process assessments and audits to ensure compliance with technical requirements and industry standards, including ISO 9001 and AS9100.
Collaborate with customers, suppliers, engineering teams, and manufacturing personnel to resolve quality-related issues.
Make final quality dispositions and acceptance decisions on products in accordance with established requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Physics, Mathematics, or another STEM-related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2+ years of experience in a manufacturing quality engineering, operations quality, or production quality environment.
2+ years of experience interpreting and applying GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles.
2+ years of experience working with SAP in a manufacturing environment.
2+ years of experience using APRISO or a comparable Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
2+ years of experience conducting Root Cause Analysis using methodologies such as 5-Why, Fishbone (Ishikawa), Cause Mapping, or similar techniques.
2+ years of experience presenting quality metrics, investigation results, or process improvement initiatives to stakeholders.
2+ years of experience performing First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting complex manufacturing operations.
Working knowledge of optical, electro-mechanical, or precision assembly processes.
Certified Green Belt or Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma.
Strong understanding and practical application of AS9102 requirements.
Experience with process validation, quality audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management systems.
Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Experience working in aerospace, defense, optics, photonics, or other highly regulated manufacturing industries.
