Quick Overview
Job Description
Who We Are:
Cogent Biosciences is a publicly traded biotechnology company focused on developing novel precision therapies to treat a broad range of patients with unmet medical needs. Cogent’s lead program, bezuclastinib, is designed to selectively and potently inhibit exon 17 mutations found within the KIT receptor tyrosine kinase, including KIT D816V. KIT D816V is responsible for driving a rare and serious condition called Systemic Mastocytosis, and exon 17 mutations are also found in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), a type of cancer with strong dependence on oncogenic KIT signaling. Bezuclastinib has exhibited promising initial data across all three trials: APEX in AdvSM, SUMMIT in NonAdvSM and PEAK in GIST, including an encouraging safety profile across 600+ patients in single agent and combination dosing.
The Role:
The Associate Director, Training and Contract Operations holds two core accountabilities that together drive operational excellence across the commercial organization.
The first is direct operational partnership with the Sr. Director, Training & Field Enablement — leading the tactical execution, planning, and governance of commercial training initiatives, field meetings, and enablement programs. This role serves as a critical partner across Sales, Commercial Operations, Marketing, Compliance, Finance, Legal, Procurement, and the People Team to ensure the successful delivery of commercial enablement programs and field-facing events.
The second is ownership of contract operations — facilitating commercial contracts, SOWs, and vendor agreements on behalf of the broader commercial organization as they move through the review and approval lifecycle. This role shepherds, coordinates, and facilitates our commercial contracts ensuring contracts are complete, correctly routed and moving efficiently through the review and approval process.
The balance of time and focus between these two accountabilities will flex based on business need, launch timelines, and organizational priorities. The ideal candidate is a highly organized and influential leader who excels at tactical execution, managing complex vendors and event portfolios, and driving operational excellence through effective cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities:
-
Commercial Training & Field Operations
Training & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Oversee execution of commercial training initiatives, onboarding programs, field communications, the training advisory board, and operational projects from planning through implementation
- Build and execute live and virtual training workshops for field and cross-functional commercial partners
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Compliance, HR, and Commercial Operations to ensure alignment between training, brand strategy, and field execution
- Support POAs, national meetings, and commercial milestones
- Partner with the Sr. Director, Training & Field Enablement to define the long-term vision, priorities, and evolution of the Commercial Learning function
- Manage multiple high-priority training projects simultaneously while maintaining quality, timeliness, and budget adherence, and continuously evaluate processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness
Meeting Planning & Event Operations
- Support planning and execution of national sales meetings, launch meetings, POA meetings, training workshops, and virtual events
- Manage meeting logistics including venue sourcing, vendor selection, contract negotiation, and budget oversight for events, attendee management, and event execution
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to develop meeting objectives, agendas, content timelines, and success metrics
- Drive continuous improvement in meeting planning processes and attendee experience
Contract Operations
Central Coordination & Facilitation
- Serve as the operational point of contact facilitating commercial contracts for the broader commercial organization — triaging intake, prioritizing based on business need, and shepherding each agreement through review and approval
- Coordinate between the business and Legal/Procurement, facilitating timely, clear communication and maintaining an aligned signature process with proactive stakeholder heads-up and status alerts
CLM, Efficiency & Enablement
- Own and administer the end-to-end contract workflow within the CLM system (e.g., Agiloft, DocuSign CLM, or equivalent) — intake forms, routing rules, approval workflows, and status tracking — ensuring contracts and amendments remain audit-ready
- Identify and flag contract language with potential business implications ("are we comfortable with this?") and surface synergies or redundancies — same vendors supporting multiple functions, contracts mirroring previously approved terms — building in pre-reviews to prevent late-stage bottlenecks
- Act as "Train the Trainer" on Contracting Excellence — training business submitters and contract owners on process, CLM tool usage, and best practices
Qualifications:
-
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
- 8+ years of experience in Commercial Operations, Training, Field Enablement, Sales Operations, Meeting Planning, Contract Operations, or related functions within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, or healthcare organizations
- Demonstrated experience coordinating complex contracts and vendor relationships — without owning drafting, negotiation, or risk decisions
- Proven experience leading large-scale meetings and events, including national sales meetings and training programs
- Strong project management and budget management experience
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and driving results through influence
- Hands-on experience with a CLM platform (Agiloft, DocuSign CLM, Icertis, ContractPodAi, or similar), including workflow configuration and reporting
- Highly organized, able to manage two distinct accountabilities that shift in weight over time
- Process discipline and comfort owning a workflow end-to-end without owning its content
- Comfortable flagging issues upward without overstepping into Legal or risk-owner territory
- Excellent written and verbal communication across technical (Legal, Procurement) and non-technical (field, Sales) audiences
