Data Governance & Metadata Specialist - W2 (Local Only)

Role Summary : Responsible for improving enterprise metadata and business-glossary coverage by combining technical metadata, governance context and AI-assisted metadata generation with human review and certification.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of Data Governance, Metadata Management and Business Glossary practices.
• Hands-on experience with one or more enterprise metadata/catalog tools such as Alation
• Working knowledge of Data Quality tools and concepts.
• Strong SQL skills.
• Working knowledge of Python.
• Experience with REST APIs and metadata integration.
• Strong understanding of technical and business metadata.
• Ability to interpret technical schemas and translate them into business context.
• Strong stakeholder-management and facilitation skills.

Nice to have skills

• CDMP certification preferred.
• Experience with Generative AI / LLM-based metadata generation.
• Knowledge of data lineage.
• Experience with semantic matching and metadata-quality analysis.
• Experience in highly governed enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Extract and consolidate technical metadata from enterprise platforms.
• Assess existing metadata and glossary coverage.
• Identify data domains, owners and stewards.
• Build contextual metadata packages using technical metadata, lineage and DQ information.
• Generate and refine draft business definitions.
• Identify duplicate, synonymous or overlapping business terms.
• Apply confidence scoring to AI-generated metadata where applicable.
• Route ambiguous definitions for SME review.
• Coordinate business and steward validation.
• Map glossary terms to technical assets.
• Link governed data elements to business terms and physical assets.
• Publish approved metadata into enterprise catalog/governance tools.
• Maintain metadata gaps and stewardship queues.
• Define metadata versioning and change-control processes.
• Support automation using APIs and scripting.
• Develop metadata quality and coverage metrics.
