During an emergency, professionals such as emergency medical technicians, or EMTs, and paramedics are among the first to respond. Their responsibilities include assessing injuries, administering emergency medical care, extricating trapped individuals, and transporting injured and sick persons to medical facilities. The Emergency Medical Science curriculum at Durham Tech trains students to become paramedics and EMTs. Students acquire basic and advanced life support knowledge and skills through classroom instruction, practical lab sessions, hospital clinical experience, and field internships with emergency medical service agencies.
