Position Description LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT The Sterile Processing Centre is responsible for the sterile reprocessing of reusable medical devices (RMDs) in accordance with AS/NZS 4187 and other local, State and National guidelines/policies. The Sterile Processing Centre, as part of St Vincent's Perioperative Services provides a critical service enabling and supporting the functioning of St Vincent's operating theatres & endoscopy suite. The department operates 24 hours a day and 52 weeks of the year.

POSITION PURPOSEThe primary role and responsibility of the Instrument Technician is to ensure the effective and efficient processing of all reusable medical devices within the policy and guidelines of the Sterile Processing Centre and State and National Standards. All Instrument Technicians are members of the multidisciplinary Sterile Processing Centre team.

A Grade 1 Instrument Technician: Works under direct supervision of Grade 5 Instrument Technician, with mentoring and support from Grade 3 or 4 Instrument Technicians Complete a mandatory orientation program for the first 3 months of commencing duties, under the direct supervision of an Instrument Technician Grade 5 POSITION DUTIES Works under direct supervision of a Grade 5 Instrument Technician, with mentoring and support from Grade 3 or 4 Instrument Technicians Complete a mandatory orientation program for the first 3 months of commencing duties Work under supervision with support in all areas of SPC (including Endoscopy suite) as an beginning practitioner to provide the full range of reprocessing services, including, but not limited to: + Decontamination + Checking RMDs and setting of instrument trays + Packaging (Sterile Barrier System) + Sterilizing + Sterile storage INCUMBENT OBLIGATIONS General Health and Safety Ensure all health and safety related policies, procedures and directions are complied with in the area they manage Ensure all in the area they manage undertake annual Fire and Emergency Training and comply with fire and emergency procedures Ensure all those in the area they manage, treat others with respect, behaving professionally and in accordance with the SVHM Code of Conduct and undertaking annual Workplace Culture and Equity Training Conduct regular safety audits with Health and Safety Representatives and implement required improvements Minimise Work Cover costs by actively assisting the return to work of any employee injured in the area they manage.
