The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to take a technical lead role within a development pod, delivering robust backend solutions using modern distributed systems and event-driven architecture.
You will specialise in designing and developing CQRS-based systems, helping shape technical approaches and ensuring high-quality backend delivery within a collaborative engineering environment.
This is an opportunity for a hands-on engineer with strong architectural knowledge and practical development experience to contribute to complex, secure technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the technical lead for backend development within a delivery pod.
  • Design and develop event-driven, distributed backend systems.
  • Implement and maintain CQRS-based architectures.
  • Apply event sourcing principles where appropriate.
  • Develop and integrate APIs to support reliable system communication.
  • Build and maintain solutions using C#/.NET and Azure technologies.
  • Work with Azure Service Bus to support event-driven messaging and integration.
  • Contribute to technical design decisions, coding standards and engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to deliver scalable, maintainable solutions.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • CQRS: Strong practical experience designing and implementing CQRS-based systems.
  • C#/.NET: Proven backend development experience, preferably using C# and .NET.
  • Event-driven architecture: Experience building systems based on events and asynchronous messaging.
  • Event sourcing: Understanding and practical experience of event-sourced systems.
  • Azure Service Bus: Experience implementing messaging and integration patterns.
  • API development: Experience designing and developing backend APIs.
  • Distributed systems: Understanding of distributed architectures, reliability and system integration.
  • Azure: Experience developing and deploying solutions within Microsoft Azure.
  • Technical leadership: Ability to guide backend development and contribute to technical decisions within a delivery team.
  • Security clearance: Must hold active SC clearance.
Java developers with strong, demonstrable CQRS and event-driven architecture experience may also be considered, although C#/.NET is preferred.
Contract Details
  • Six-month initial contract.
  • Inside IR35, with flexibility for candidates offering the full range of required skills.
  • Remote-first working, with occasional flexibility required.
  • Active SC clearance is essential.
If you have strong CQRS experience and enjoy leading hands-on backend development within distributed, event-driven environments, we'd be keen to hear from you.
