Job Description

About Sellers Dorsey

Sellers Dorsey is a healthcare impact strategy firm focused on improving care access, quality, and outcomes for our nation’s most vulnerable populations. We work with providers, managed care organizations, state entities, and others, to design, implement, fund, and optimize sustainable programs that deliver maximum impact to underserved communities. Built on decades of experience in Medicaid, our team includes former state Medicaid directors, healthcare policy experts, health plan execs, and hospital leaders who know how to navigate the complexities of the system and find creative, impactful solutions that drive the greatest impact for the individuals and communities that need it most.

About the Role

Sellers Dorsey is seeking a Product Owner who will drive backlog management, sprint ceremonies, and requirements definition for an assigned engineering squad within Product & Technology, translating stakeholder requests into a clear, prioritized backlog. As the Product Owner, you will also flex to support other Product & Technology squads as capacity needs arise. Success is measured by backlog health, sprint predictability, and stakeholder satisfaction with delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Backlog and Task Management:

  • Own and prioritize the squad backlog, translating stakeholder requests and priorities into clear, actionable tickets.

  • Maintain backlog health, including refinement, sequencing, and dependency tracking.

  • Assess the technical soundness and quality of backlog items to ensure delivered work meets production-grade standards.

Sprint Ceremonies:

  • Plan and lead stand-ups, refinements, retrospectives and planning sessions for the squad.

  • Represent the squad in the cross-squad Scrum of Scrums, surfacing dependencies and coordination needs.

  • Track progress and communicate status, risks, and blockers to stakeholders and the squad's tech lead.

  • Track and report agile delivery metrics, such as velocity, throughput, and backlog health trends, to inform prioritization and surface process improvements.

  • Drive follow-through on retrospective action items to improve squad delivery over time.

Stakeholder Coordination and Requirements:

  • Gather and document requirements from internal and external/client stakeholders.

  • Partner with the assigned squad tech lead to align backlog priorities.

  • Communicate delivery timelines and trade-offs to internal stakeholders

Cross-Squad Support and Release Readiness:

  • Flex to support other Product & Technology squads during peak demand or staffing gaps.

  • Coordinate user acceptance testing and validate completed work against acceptance criteria before release.

  • Monitor delivery quality and escalate risks tied to scope, timeline, or shifting squad priorities

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or any related field.

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent Agile/Scrum certification.

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or Business Analyst in an Agile/Scrum environment.

  • Demonstrated experience managing a backlog for technical or data-oriented work.

  • Experience translating stakeholder or technical requirements into structured, prioritized backlog items.

  • Experience in healthcare, Medicaid, or another regulated industry preferred.

  • Experience supporting multiple concurrent squads or product teams preferred.

Critical Professional related Technical Skills

  • Agile project management tooling.

  • Documentation and collaboration tools, such as Microsoft 365.

  • Working familiarity with data pipeline and ETL concepts sufficient to structure technical backlog items.

  • Working knowledge of relational database schemas and the ability to write and interpret SQL queries to validate data, investigate issues, and inform backlog decisions.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Sellers Dorsey does not sponsor employment visas at this time. Employment with Sellers Dorsey is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
