Job Description

Project Buyer – Edinburgh (12-Month Contract)

Pay: £31–£33 per hour (umbrella assignment rate)

Location: Edinburgh (onsite, Monday–Friday)

Hours: 40 hours per week

Contract: Initial 12 months, with potential for extension

Industry: Engineering and technology

About the Role

Script & Dot is looking for an organised Project Buyer to support the delivery of complex engineering projects within an international technology business.

Combining purchasing, materials coordination and project administration, you’ll help ensure project teams have the parts, services and information they need to meet customer delivery commitments.

Working closely with project managers, engineers, manufacturing teams and suppliers, you’ll monitor orders, resolve delivery issues and keep project records accurate and up to date.

This opportunity could suit a buyer looking for a broader project role, or an engineering project coordinator with practical purchasing and supplier coordination experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Raise and manage purchase orders for project materials, services and subcontracted work
  • Monitor supplier commitments, chase urgent deliveries and highlight shortages that could affect project schedules
  • Coordinate material availability with engineering, manufacturing, logistics and suppliers, including arranging replacements for defective items
  • Track open orders and committed purchasing spend to support project budgets and material planning
  • Support project managers with day-to-day coordination, progress updates and reporting
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, project documentation and quality evidence within internal systems
  • Assist with project start-up, handover and closure activities
  • Follow internal purchasing, quality and compliance procedures, supporting audits and reviews when required

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in buying, procurement, materials coordination, supply chain or project support within an engineering, manufacturing or technical environment
  • Practical experience with purchasing processes, supplier follow-up and delivery coordination
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage several priorities at once
  • Clear communication skills and confidence working with suppliers and colleagues across different teams
  • Experience using an ERP or procurement system, such as SAP, Oracle or equivalent
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to maintaining records

Experience supporting engineering projects, monitoring material costs or working within a regulated industry would be advantageous. Familiarity with quality systems, audit processes or export control procedures would also be beneficial.

What’s on Offer

  • An initial 12-month contract with potential to extend
  • A varied role spanning purchasing, supplier coordination and project support
  • Exposure to complex engineering projects within an international business
  • Close collaboration with project management, engineering, manufacturing and supply chain teams

If you enjoy coordinating suppliers, solving delivery problems and keeping projects moving, we’d love to hear from you.
