OpenShift / Cloud Engineer
Location: Dallas, TX — Onsite
Employment Type: Contract, 6+ months
Note: In-person interview required.
Role Overview
The OpenShift/Cloud Engineer is accountable for engineering, support, automation, and thought leadership across the organization's Platform-as-a-Service offerings. This role assists with application migrations onto the PaaS platform and related modernization activities.
Required Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience with Red Hat OpenShift infrastructure design, deployment, and operational support, across OCP 4.6 through current stable releases.
- Extensive knowledge of Linux containers (Docker), Kubernetes, and deployment of containerized applications and microservices architectures.
- Minimum 2+ years working with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
- Experience with Java, JBoss, nginx, Node.js, and enterprise application architectures.
- Specific knowledge and experience migrating and refactoring applications into containerized workloads.
- Demonstrated skill in one or more configuration management / scripting technologies (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or Python).
- Specific knowledge and experience provisioning multi-node HA clusters, including monitoring, performance testing, and application deployment.
- Experience with automated deployment tooling.
- Deep conceptual and applied understanding of DevOps concepts, tools, and practices.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling such as Git, Jenkins, or comparable platforms.
- Working knowledge of networking topics including protocols, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to apply them across multiple concurrent projects.
- Outstanding ability to communicate complex technical issues through written, verbal, and digital deliverables.
- Willingness to document, share knowledge, and train other members of the team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with VMware technologies (vCenter, vRA, vRO) and running OpenShift on bare metal.
- Working knowledge of SSL certificate management.
- Experience with Agile teams, tools, practices, and ceremonies (Kanban, stand-ups, sprints).
- Container and pod-level monitoring and logging — Dynatrace, QRadar.
- Experience with IBM Cloud and/or AWS.
- Keeps current with relevant industry standards and emerging technologies.
