Job description

Henry Ford Health partners with millions of people on their health journey, across Michigan and around the world. We offer a full continuum of services from primary and preventative care to complex and specialty care, health insurance, a full suite of home health offerings, virtual care, pharmacy, eye care and other health care retail. With former Ascension southeast Michigan and Flint region locations now part of our team, Henry Ford's care is available in 13 hospitals and hundreds of ambulatory care locations. Based in Detroit, Henry Ford is one of the nation's most respected academic medical centers and is leading the Future of Health: Detroit, a $3 billion investment anchored by a reimagined Henry Ford academic healthcare campus.

Henry Ford Health’s Department of Neurology, located in southeastern Michigan, is seeking board-eligible/certified Neurologists with experience in inpatient neurology and/or fellowship training in neurocritical care or vascular neurology for contingent positions.  The department includes 7 vascular neurologists, six neurointensivists, five endovascular neurointerventionalists and four neurohospitalists (three of which are also vascular neurology trained). Further support is derived by the department of neurology at large, neurosurgery, emergency medicine, internal medicine, and neuroradiology.

The clinical expectation is for coverage of neurology consultation rounds at either HF Macomb or HF West Bloomfield hospitals, depending on assignment for that day. The teams include APP support at both locations. The coverage is on a shift basis from 7 AM to 6 PM however stroke call/acute stroke activations are managed by the vascular neurologist on call via telephone for the initial acute recommendations such as IV thrombolysis or mechanical thrombectomy. The physician will lead and manage the inpatient neurology service, on a consultation basis. This involves the evaluation of and diagnoses of acute neurological emergencies such as stroke, status epilepticus, neuromuscular pathologies, demyelinating disease, encephalopathy, and the wide range of neurological manifestations of systemic disease. The team is supported by the epilepsy division for routine and long-term EEG monitoring and reading.

With approximately 65 neurologists, including subspecialists in MS, stroke, epilepsy, neuromuscular, pediatrics, critical care, headache, movement disorders, and behavioral neurology, Henry Ford’s Department of Neurology supports one of the largest and most established health care systems in the United States. Henry Ford’s Neuroscience Institute is one of the largest and most active medically and surgically in the Midwest, offering the most advanced neurologic medical and surgical therapies. Our busy clinical practice completes over 30,000 visits annually across four outpatient medical centers in metro Detroit. Additionally, with two stroke units, two EMUs, Neuro ICU, step-down unit, and general neurology unit at our urban and community hospitals, our team treats over 5,000 inpatients annually.

  • Must have completed an ACGME/AOA approved Neurology residency program.
  • Must be board-eligible/board-certified in Neurology.
