Quick overview
Job description
We are seeking a Data Product Owner to lead data initiatives aligned with engineering and analytics teams, with a strong focus on Master Data Management (MDM) domains such as customer, product, location, and transactional data. This role requires a technically fluent product owner who can operate in ambiguity, lead problem definition, and build multi-year roadmaps that drive enterprise data strategy.
The ideal candidate brings a blend of product ownership, business analysis, and delivery leadership, with experience supporting large-scale data environments in retail or similar industries.
Responsibilities
Own and drive end-to-end delivery of data initiatives, from problem framing and requirements gathering through execution and delivery.
Lead workshops and working sessions with business stakeholders to define unclear or evolving requirements.
Translate business needs into structured backlogs, user stories, and multi-year product roadmaps.
Act as the primary interface between business partners and technical teams, ensuring alignment and clarity across all stakeholders.
Lead initiatives across key MDM domains, including customer, item/product, location, invoice, and sales data.
Oversee ELT-based data initiatives within hybrid cloud environments, ensuring scalable and efficient data flows.
Use SQL to explore datasets, validate logic, and support requirement accuracy and data integrity.
Establish and standardize product management practices, including backlog governance, roadmap frameworks, and stakeholder engagement models.
Track and report on delivery KPIs (e.g., cycle time, throughput, team performance) to support a maturing product organization.
Define and manage OKRs to align team output with business outcomes.
Operate independently on smaller initiatives without reliance on centralized PMO structures.
Must-Haves
7+ Combined experience as a Product Manager/Owner supporting data engineering or analytics teams.
Additional experience in project management, business analysis, or data-focused roles within large-scale environments.
Strong domain experience in Master Data Management (MDM), including customer, product/item, location, and transactional datasets.
Proven ability to operate in ambiguous environments—framing problems, leading discussions, and driving clarity.
Experience building and managing multi-year product roadmaps.
Strong business analysis skills, including requirements elicitation, stakeholder management, and workshop facilitation.
Experience with BI and reporting tools
Background in retail or similarly data-intensive industries preferred
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with modern data platforms such as Snowflake or Informatica.
Familiarity with Excel for data analysis and business reporting.
Exposure to data science concepts and advanced analytics use cases.
Experience helping organizations mature product management practices (e.g., backlog governance, standardized artifacts).
- Experience working across both highly technical teams and business stakeholders.
