Job Description

Overview:

GovCIO is currently hiring a highly skilled and motivated Compute/Commvault Administrator to support critical enterprise backup, recovery, and compute infrastructure modernization for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). Operating within a secured SIPRNET environment, this technical role focuses on designing, administering, and optimizing robust Commvault backup frameworks and cutting-edge Cisco UCS and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) platforms. This position will be located in Alexandria, VA, with travel to Kearneysville, WV, as required, and will operate fully on-site.

Responsibilities:

The Compute/Commvault Administrator serves as a proactive technical problem-solver and system safeguard, responsible for core data protection architecture, hyperconverged compute infrastructure engineering, and strict federal security compliance. Core responsibilities include:

 

COMMVAULT:

 

  • Perform daily administration of Commvault CommCell environment (CommServe, MediaAgents, VSA proxies, storage libraries).
  • Design, implement, and maintain backup policies, storage policies, schedules, and retention requirements in compliance with classified data handling rules.
  • Execute and validate daily/weekly/monthly backups of systems (Windows, Linux, VMware, databases – Oracle, SQL, etc.).
  • Perform regular recovery testing and documentation to meet audit and mission continuity requirements.
  • Manage Commvault auxiliary copy, deduplication databases (DDB), and indexes.
  • Apply Commvault patches, hotfixes, and feature releases following change-management and security approval processes.
  • Harden Commvault infrastructure according to DISA STIGs and agency security technical implementation guides (STIGs).
  • Monitor Commvault environment using Command Center, health reports, and alerts.
  • Manage Commvault role-based access control (RBAC) and audit logging.

 

COMPUTE (UCS/VCF):

 

  • Perform daily administration and monitoring of Cisco UCS domains, fabric interconnects, chassis, and blade servers.
  • Manage, maintain, and upgrade VMware vSphere, vCenter, and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) components, including ESXi, vSAN, and NSX-T.
  • Design, implement, and maintain virtualization and computing policies in compliance with classified data handling rules.
  • Execute and validate daily/weekly/monthly health checks and performance monitoring of UCS and VMware infrastructure.
  • Perform regular failover and disaster recovery testing and documentation to meet audit and mission continuity requirements.
  • Manage server profiles, templates, and firmware updates for Cisco UCS.
  • Apply VMware and Cisco patches, hotfixes, and feature releases following change-management and security approval processes.
  • Harden computing and virtualization infrastructure according to DISA STIGs and agency security technical implementation guides (STIGs).
  • Monitor the computing environment using vRealize Operations, Intersight, and other alerting systems.
  • Manage role-based access control (RBAC) and audit logging for VMware and UCS environments.
  • Support data spills, incident response, and forensic preservation requests.
  • Produce compliance reports for internal audits.
  • Participate in weekly working groups and disaster recovery exercises.
  • Maintain up-to-date SOPs, system diagrams, and recovery procedures.
Qualifications:

High School with 9 years (or commensurate experience)

 

Required Skills & Experience

 

  • Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+)
  • Commvault Administration: Direct hands-on experience (3+ years) administering Commvault enterprise solutions, including deep technical knowledge of deduplication, auxiliary copies, and indexing.
  • Compute & Virtualization Engineering: Advanced proficiency (3+ years) managing Cisco UCS server profiles, templates, and VMware vSphere/VCF architectures (vSAN, NSX, and software-defined data centers).
  • Security Architecture: Proven experience translating DISA STIG requirements into automated baseline configurations, engineered security controls, and hardened system policies.
  • Infrastructure Integration: Solid understanding of SAN/NAS storage integration with VMware, hardware lifecycle management, and cross-platform administration in Windows Server and Linux environments.

Clearance Level: Must have an active Secret clearance  

 

Preferred Skills & Experience

 

  • Advanced Certifications: Professional designations such as Commvault Certified Master or Professional, and VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
  • VCF Architecture Mastery: Practical, working engineering knowledge of VMware Cloud Foundation architecture, deployment patterns, and software-defined data centers (SDDC).
  • Automation Scripting: Experience writing programmatic scripts in PowerShell or Python to automate backup tasks and streamline enterprise infrastructure operations.
  • Secure Environments: Prior engineering experience operating within high-security, classified federal environments or supporting USCG/DHS modernizations.
Posted Salary Range: USD $100,000.00 - USD $125,000.00 /Yr.
