Job Description

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Reverse Engineer and AI Workflow Developer to design and analyze complex software, firmware, and systems supporting national security and critical missions. You will decompile and analyze binaries, identify vulnerabilities, and build robust AI-driven workflows that automate reverse engineering, data processing, and decision support. Working in multidisciplinary teams, you will prototype tools, integrate ML models, document findings, and present results to sponsors while contributing to research publications and proposals in a mission-focused, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform reverse engineering of software, firmware, and embedded systems to identify behaviors and vulnerabilities.
  • Develop AI-driven workflows and automation pipelines to accelerate analysis and decision-making.
  • Design and implement tools in Python and C/C++ or Rust to support reverse engineering and security research.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate mission needs into technical solutions.
  • Document analysis methods, create technical reports, and present findings to sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Prototype and evaluate ML models for code analysis, anomaly detection, and pattern recognition.
  • Contribute to research proposals, publications, and open-source or internal tools.
  • Apply secure coding and best practices to all developed software and workflows.
  • Support testing, validation, and deployment of tools in laboratory and operational environments.
  • Mentor junior staff and participate in code reviews and technical design discussions.
