Engineering Program Manager
W2 Contract
Pay Rate: $60 - $70 per hour
Location: Cupertino, CA - Hybrid Role
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly technical Engineering Program Manager (EPM) to drive complex platform-infrastructure and cloud initiatives from early development through production rollout.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive complex platform and cloud infrastructure programs from development through production.
- Partner closely with software, platform, infrastructure, and SRE engineering teams.
- Understand platform architecture sufficiently to participate meaningfully in technical discussions.
- Develop and maintain integrated program plans, milestones, dependencies, risks, and decision points.
- Identify cross-team technical dependencies early and drive them to closure.
- Coordinate work across platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, networking, security, SRE, and application teams.
- Ensure production-readiness requirements are identified and addressed before launch.
- Partner with SRE and operations teams on supportability, monitoring, alerting, capacity, reliability, and operational ownership.
- Manage relationships with multiple internal engineering organizations consuming the platform.
- Translate technical requirements, risks, and status across engineering teams, internal customers, and senior leadership.
- Drive resolution of ownership gaps, technical blockers, and cross-functional dependencies.
- Coordinate infrastructure provisioning, platform integration, validation, rollout, migration, and operational handoff activities.
- Ensure technical decisions and program tradeoffs are clearly documented.
- Track critical-path dependencies and proactively address schedule or delivery risk.
- Present program status, risks, decisions, and technical context to senior leadership.
- Respond credibly to technical questions during leadership and stakeholder reviews.
- Drive ambiguous initiatives independently with limited supervision.
- Maintain focus on complete program outcomes rather than individual task completion.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Significant experience managing complex technical engineering programs.
- Strong technical foundation in software engineering, platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, or a closely related area.
- Ability to understand system architecture, technical design documents, APIs, infrastructure dependencies, and engineering tradeoffs.
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized infrastructure.
- Understanding of cloud architecture and managed cloud services.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts and tools such as Terraform, Crossplane, Pulumi, or CloudFormation.
- Understanding of distributed systems and service dependencies.
- Familiarity with cloud networking concepts, including DNS, routing, load balancing, VPC networking, and service connectivity.
- Understanding of software development and deployment lifecycles.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, production deployment, monitoring, and operational-readiness concepts.
- Ability to identify technical dependencies and translate them into program plans and sequencing.
- Strong cross-functional program-management skills.
- Demonstrated experience managing risks, milestones, dependencies, and competing priorities.
- Strong stakeholder and internal customer management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both engineering teams and senior leadership.
- Ability to work independently and drive ambiguous programs to completion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous software-engineering or platform-engineering experience.
- Experience with Go, Java, Python, or another general-purpose programming language.
- Experience with Kubernetes-based platform environments.
- Experience with AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Alibaba Cloud, or other large-scale cloud environments.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code and cloud automation.
- Experience with Helm or Kubernetes deployment tooling.
- Experience with large-scale platform migrations or multi-cloud programs.
- Experience supporting internal developers or infrastructure platforms.
- Experience coordinating production launches involving SRE or operations organizations.
- Experience working with networking, security, infrastructure, and application engineering teams.
- Experience presenting technical programs to senior or executive leadership.
