Job Description

  • Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
We’re searching for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Concord, Canada. This team focuses specifically on packaging, converting, and finishing equipment — machinery that performs printing, labeling, inspection, bank encoding, and end-of-line packaging. In this role, you'll lead the conceptual design of custom automation systems, working alongside senior designers and cross-functional electrical, programming, vision, and motion-control teams to take machinery from concept through delivery on aggressive project timelines.
    Responsibilities

    • Lead the customized portions of machine design — generally the “mad scientist,” first-of-a-kind problem-solving work — while standard modules and components handle the rest
    • Develop and detail designs using SolidWorks (3D) and AutoCAD (2D), applying GD&T principles throughout
    • Build and maintain bills of materials for both standard and custom-designed machine content
    • Work within SolidWorks PDM, leveraging the team's library of standard modules alongside custom-designed elements
    • Collaborate closely with electrical, programming, vision, motion control, and application engineering teams to support the equipment's PC-based, IP/Ethernet control architecture
    • Support fast-moving project timelines, from initial concept design through detailed design, integration, and final installation
    • Partner with field service and commissioning teams, incorporating feedback from onsite installation and troubleshooting to improve design and serviceability
    • Lead the conceptual design and development of custom high-speed automation systems built for speed, precision, and performance
    • Drive pure innovation and automation using advanced technologies
    • Work on cutting-edge engineering projects that truly challenge and excite you

    Qualifications
    • 5+ years of mechanical design experience in high-speed automation or custom machine building
    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
    • Strong understanding of servo systems, pneumatics, mechanical motion systems, GD&T, manufacturing and machining practices
    • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and experience with PDM/document control systems
    • Strong problem-solving mindset with a passion for innovation and technology
    • Comfortable working across both 3D and 2D CAD, including AutoCAD
    • Experience creating and maintaining bills of materials
    • Mechanical design experience involving moving machinery
    • Strong knowledge of conveyors, gear ratios, and power transmission, in addition to servos and pneumatics
    • Background in complex automation equipment design, rather than primarily automotive, mold-making, structural, or sheet metal design
    • Able to ramp up quickly and take ownership of designs against firm customer deadlines
    • Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
    • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Prior experience designing packaging, converting, or finishing equipment (printing, labeling, inspection, bank encoding, or end-of-line packaging systems)
    • Experience with PC-based control architectures using IP/Ethernet communication, rather than traditional PLC-based controls
    • Experience mentoring or pairing with intermediate-level designers
    • Comfortable providing remote engineering support  to field service and commissioning teams

    Type: Fulltime
    Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm
    Location: Concord, ON, Canada (on-site)
Pay Rate Range: $140,000–$180,000/yr (DOE) CAD
