Monitoring / Observability Tool Developer

Location: Atlanta, Georgia (Remote)

Role Overview

We are seeking a Monitoring / Observability Tool Developer. The objective is to enhance a tool used for comparing server configurations across environments. This position will involve adding automation and visualization to provide real-time insights into the condition of all production and non-production environments. The enhanced tool will help identify anomalies, reduce configuration drift, and improve system stability by allowing proactive monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

• Enhance an existing configuration comparison tool to serve as a daily resource for production and non-production environments.
• Introduce automation and visual displays to the tool for immediate identification of environmental conditions.
• Enable developers and support resources to see the current state of all environments, including directory structures, permissions, and system configurations.
• Expand the tool's capabilities to monitor advanced items such as WebSphere custom configurations and TLS encryption levels.
• Ensure the tool is portable and applicable across different systems and business lines.
• Contribute to improved system stability and the reduction of configuration drift.

Required Qualifications

Education: BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

Experience: 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience. This includes 3 to 4 years of experience in large systems software design and development.

Technical Skills:

• Strong programming skills in Java with strong object-oriented skills.
• Proficient knowledge of at least one Unix or Unix-variant system (e.g., AIX/Linux).
• Experience with shell scripting in AIX.
• Proficient knowledge of at least one major relational database system and database SQL.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Tableau, Splunk, and Grafana.
• Knowledge of automated testing, builds, or deployments.
• Experience with front-end development or web design.
• Experience with Spring, MVC, JavaScript, and Ajax is helpful.
• Familiarity with Jenkins and GIT is helpful.
• Good understanding of agile software development methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Ansible.
• Proficiency in MS PowerPoint.
