Quality Engineer – Multi-Sector Precision Engineering

Salary: £43,000–£50,000 per annum, dependent on experience + benefits

Who You'll Be Working For

Our client is a specialist manufacturer of high-tolerance components, serving customers across the aerospace, automotive and advanced engineering sectors.

From flight-critical parts to performance-critical automotive components, the business has built its reputation on precision, consistency and an uncompromising approach to quality.

They're now looking for a Quality Engineer to play a key role in maintaining those standards and in shaping how quality is delivered across the site going forward.

A Typical Week Might Include...

• Inspecting precision-machined components to demanding tolerances using CMMs, hand gauging and optical measurement equipment
• Programming and running the CMM to verify parts against customer drawings and specifications
• Completing first article inspections (FAI) and preparing PPAP documentation for customer approval
• Investigating internal non-conformances and customer complaints, raising NCRs and driving corrective actions to closure
• Getting to the bottom of quality issues using 8D, 5 Whys and other structured problem-solving methods
• Carrying out internal audits to ISO 9001 and AS9100, and helping to keep the quality management system in good health
• Supporting SPC and process capability studies alongside production and engineering
• Welcoming customer quality representatives to site and representing the business during audits and visits
• Getting involved in improvement projects that cut scrap, rework and cost of poor quality

Because the business serves several sectors, you'll see genuine variety here, one week could involve aerospace traceability requirements, the next automotive customer-specific standards.

What You'll Need to Succeed

• A solid engineering background, time-served, HNC/HND or degree qualified, with quality experience in precision manufacturing
• Hands-on CMM programming and operating ability (this is central to the role)
• The ability to read and work to complex engineering drawings, including GD&T
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 as a minimum, with AS9100 and/or IATF 16949 highly regarded
• A practical grasp of metrology, inspection methods and measurement uncertainty
• Confidence running structured problem-solving exercises and seeing actions through
• Good people skills — you'll liaise daily with shop floor colleagues, engineers and customer contacts alike
