Job Description

IBM zDevOps SME/Solution Architect

Duration: 2 - 3 months

Hours: Full or part time hours can be considered (2/3 days per week)

Location: Can be fully home based. Remote delivery - No geographical restrictions

Rate: Market Day Rate (Inside IR35)

Our leading consultancy client is setting up a GitLab-based DevOps toolchain (with IBM DBB + UCD) across 4 different Business Units (countries) - each with its own Mainframe environment. To provide detailed setup inputs (precise software, network, etc. details).

The successful candidate will be an experienced zDevOps Specialist, with hands-on experience setting up GitLab-based Mainframe toolchains.

Program: Programme GitLab-based IBM Z DevOps toolchain setup across four countries using IBM DDB and IBM UrbanCode Deploy.

Engagement focus: Hands-on toolchain setup leadership, infrastructure input definition, environment design and delivery coordination.

Tasks to be delivered -

  • Understand current environment topology across all BUs (CH, DE, UK, ZNA)
  • Review and validate the target GitLab + DBB + UCD architecture
  • Define detailed setup inputs for each BU (software, infrastructure, network, security, connectivity)
  • Work with ISP to guide installation, configuration, and environment setup
  • Validate end-to-end toolchain setup (GitLab+DBB+UCD pipeline working)
  • Identify and resolve setup issues and gaps during implementation

Experience -

  • Sufficient hands-on experience in GitLab, GitLab Runners, IBM DBB, UCD, DevOps tooling, Zowe, Wazi extensions, or related modern Mainframe development practices.
  • DevOps and modernization-focused skill set/tooling.
  • Hands-on experience setting up a GitLab-based Mainframe DevOps toolchain.
  • Practical IBM Dependency Based Build experience, including integration into a CI/CD pipeline.
  • Practical IBM UrbanCode Deploy experience for controlled Mainframe deployment and promotion workflows.
  • Strong IBM Z/OS integration knowledge across build, deployment, security and connectivity requirements.
  • Ability to define precise infrastructure setup inputs, including software prerequisites, network connectivity, ports, certifications, access, service accounts and operational dependencies.
  • Experience with hands-on toolchain setup across multiple environments or business units.
