SEASONAL - League Staff Writer

JOB OVERVIEW

Unrivaled is seeking League Staff Writer to help tell the stories of our players, clubs, games as they unfold during the 2026–2027 season. The engagement is expected to begin December 14, 2026, and continue through March 19, 2027, subject to completion of the agreed scope of services.

The League Staff Writer will be responsible for producing original editorial coverage across Unrivaled’s owned channels, including game previews and recaps, player and club features, league storylines, analysis and other timely basketball coverage. The ideal candidate is a strong basketball storyteller who can identify compelling narratives, research independently, write with accuracy and personality, and turn around clean copy on deadline.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Write timely game previews, recaps and other coverage throughout the regular season, 1-on-1 Tournament and playoffs
• Participate in every post-game press conference across all Unrivaled games, developing insightful, timely and purpose-driven questions for players and coaches.
• Develop original feature stories highlighting Unrivaled players, clubs, coaches and league storylines
• Identify and develop emerging basketball narratives throughout the season
• Use statistics, game results, reporting and broader basketball context to strengthen editorial coverage
• Conduct independent research and interviews as needed
• Work closely with Communications, Marketing, Content, Basketball Operations and other league teams to identify upcoming stories and editorial opportunities
• Maintain an editorial calendar tied to the league schedule, major moments and priority storylines
• Support additional league writing needs, including newsletters, website content and special editorial projects
• Produce accurate, polished copy on tight deadlines while following AP style and Unrivaled editorial standards

QUALIFICATIONS

• Exceptional writing, reporting and storytelling skills
• Demonstrated experience covering basketball, sports or a related beat
• Strong knowledge of women’s basketball and the broader professional basketball landscape, especially all Unrivaled athletes
• Ability to identify compelling player, team and league storylines beyond game results
• Comfortable working with statistics, box scores and basketball data
• Strong research and fact-checking skills
• Ability to write both longer-form features and concise, deadline-driven game coverage
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced live sports environment
• Strong editorial judgment and ability to work independently
• Familiarity with AP style

LOCATION & AVAILABILITY

• Must be located in the Miami, FL area or be willing to relocate there during the season; relocation expenses are not provided.
• Evening and weekend availability will be required based on the league game, event, and production schedule.

COMPENSATION

• Employment Type: 1099
• Monthly Rate: $4,000
• Contract Duration: December 14, 2026 to March 19, 2027
