Software Dev Engineer IV
Location: Redmond, Washington (Onsite)
Role Overview
We are seeking a talented Senior Software Development Engineer to join our team, working on an ambitious satellite internet constellation that will provide fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. This role supports the data platform behind our optical inter-satellite link programs. It requires a strong foundation in production software development, data pipeline engineering, and AWS services.
Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate batch and streaming data pipelines that ingest, transform, and serve manufacturing and on-orbit telemetry.
• Build and maintain the AWS infrastructure behind those pipelines, deployed as code.
• Build and optimize high-performance databases to handle massive volumes of telemetry and operational data.
• Develop the backend services and APIs that serve this data to internal users and tools.
• Handle day-to-day data operations: backfills, incoming data checks, and publishing the datasets other teams rely on.
• Monitor pipeline health and data quality, and troubleshoot production issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, network architects, and scientists.
• Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance in a mission-critical environment.

Required Qualifications
Core Software Development:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience in production environments.
• Fluent in both Python and Java, with production code written in each.
• Strong understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of distributed systems and cloud computing platforms.
• Understanding of IAM and least-privilege access patterns.
• Experience with Docker.

Data Pipeline Experience:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience building and operating production data pipelines, both batch and streaming.
• Experience designing ETL/ELT processes, including incremental loads, backfills, and late or out-of-order data.
• Experience with distributed batch and stream processing frameworks, such as Apache Spark or Apache Flink.
• Experience running pipelines in production: monitoring and alarming, data quality checks, and recovering from failed runs.
• Engineering judgment to notice when telemetry looks wrong rather than passing it through.

AWS Services:

• Hands-on experience with AWS storage, compute, and data processing services.
• Experience defining and deploying cloud infrastructure as code.

Database Building Experience:

• Proficiency with SQL at depth. Familiarity with NoSQL databases is useful.
• Experience with database performance optimization, indexing strategies, and query tuning on large datasets.
• Knowledge of data modeling, schema design, and database migration strategies.
• Experience with data warehousing concepts, such as partitioning and columnar storage.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with columnar analytical databases.
• Experience with high-volume time-series or telemetry data.
• Experience with TypeScript and React.
• Knowledge of network protocols and telecommunications systems.
