Job description

IT Projects & Infrastructure Engineer
Herne Bay, Kent £37,000 £40,000
Office-based 9am 5.30pm No on-call rota

Do you enjoy implementing Microsoft solutions and seeing a project through?

Have you built hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune and Defender?

Are you looking for a role where around 90% of your time will be focused on projects, including scoping and delivery?

We re working with an established IT managed services provider in Herne Bay looking for an IT Projects & Infrastructure Engineer to join their team.

This role offers a clear focus on project work. You ll help scope and implement solutions for customers, working across Microsoft 365, cloud infrastructure, endpoint management and security.

You may already be delivering projects as an Infrastructure or Projects Engineer. Alternatively, you could be a strong 2nd Line MSP Engineer with practical implementation experience who is ready to take on more project responsibility.

What will you be doing?

Around 90% of the role will involve projects, including scoping. Based on the current pipeline, these are likely to include:

  • Microsoft 365 migrations and new tenant setups.
  • File server migrations to SharePoint Online or Azure Files.
  • Moving infrastructure and services into Azure.
  • Intune deployments.
  • Security policy rollouts.
  • Technical onboarding of new customers.

You ll work with customers and colleagues to understand requirements, implement solutions, troubleshoot issues and maintain clear technical documentation.

Customer site visits are occasional, averaging around once a month or less. Service Desk escalations unrelated to project work are expected to take around one to two days a month, alongside resolving any issues arising from your projects.

What experience will you need?

Your strongest experience should be around the Microsoft 365 platform, with hands-on knowledge of Azure, Intune and Microsoft Defender essential from day one.

You ll also need experience across:

  • Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Exchange Online and SharePoint Online.
  • Windows desktop and server technologies.
  • Networking fundamentals and troubleshooting.

MSP experience would be an advantage, particularly if you re used to working across different customer environments. Exposure to Microsoft Copilot, Purview, security and compliance, or automation would also be useful.

You ll be someone who takes ownership, enjoys solving problems and can explain technical matters clearly to customers. Previous experience delivering projects independently will be particularly valuable, although strong 2nd Line MSP Engineers ready to make that move will also be considered.

Training and development

The company offers on-the-job training, vendor-specific training both online and in person, and reimbursement of Microsoft exam costs.

Depending on the Microsoft certification, support may also include funded online courses or onsite training, plus some time during working hours to study.

Working arrangements

  • Office-based in Herne Bay, with core hours of 9am 5.30pm.
  • No on-call rota for this role; a separate team handles on-call support.
  • Occasional work outside normal hours may be required, with overtime paid.
  • A full UK driving licence and your own car are essential.
  • Mileage and other business travel costs, including trains and parking, are reimbursed
