Job Description

Statkraft is Europe's largest generator of renewable energy from hydro, wind and solar power. We have around 6,200 employees in 20 countries. We have been making clean energy possible for over 130 years, with unrivalled expertise in supplying the world with what it needs most. We envision a world that runs entirely on renewable energy.

As a Senior Grid Engineer – Power Systems & Compliance, you will support the technical delivery, grid integration and compliance of Statkraft’s renewable energy and grid services portfolio, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), synchronous condensers, solar PV, wind and hybrid/co-located projects.

Reporting to the Technical Manager – Grid Services UK, you will act as the day-to-day technical lead for assigned grid, power systems and compliance workstreams, working closely with project teams, consultants, OEMs, contractors and network operators.

  • Lead and manage Grid Code and G99 compliance activities, translating connection and regulatory requirements into clear technical deliverables, compliance strategies and project programmes.
  • Manage projects through power system studies, modelling, technical submissions, commissioning, compliance testing and final compliance acceptance, including EON, ION and FON processes where applicable.
  • Define, coordinate and review power system study programmes, including load flow, fault level, reactive power, harmonics, power quality, stability, RMS, EMT and control interaction studies.
  • Review and challenge consultant and OEM study methodologies, assumptions, models and results, assessing their impact on plant design, controls, commissioning and compliance.
  • Manage technical engagement with NESO, Transmission Owners and DNOs, coordinating technical submissions, responses, evidence and compliance close-out activities.
  • Define and review plant control and integration requirements, including PPC/MPPC, EMS, BESS and grid-forming controls, AVR systems, synchronous condenser controls and network operator interfaces.
  • Support the wider technical ownership and integration of BESS and synchronous condenser projects, while leading grid connection, power system performance and compliance activities for wind and solar projects.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to identify and manage technical, programme and commercial risks, review designs and contractor submissions, and support procurement and tender evaluations.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout design, construction and commissioning, assessing the compliance impact of design or equipment changes and supporting the resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Provide clear, practical and commercially aware engineering recommendations, supporting project handover into operations and providing technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers.

We are looking for an experienced power systems professional who combines strong technical knowledge with a pragmatic approach to project delivery and is confident challenging consultants, OEMs and contractors.

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Strong experience within transmission-connected generation, energy storage, grid support technologies or major distribution-connected projects, with experience of Grid Code, G99 and network compliance.
  • Strong understanding of the GB Grid Code, with experience managing projects through power system studies, commissioning, compliance testing and final compliance acceptance.
  • Demonstrable experience specifying, managing and reviewing power system studies and models, with the technical capability to challenge methodologies, assumptions, results and recommendations.
  • Strong knowledge of voltage and reactive power control, frequency response, fault ride-through, fault levels, system stability, harmonics and power quality.
  • Experience managing technical interfaces between consultants, OEMs, EPC contractors and network operators, alongside a good understanding of HV substations, transformers, protection, metering and control systems.
  • Experience with one or more relevant technologies, including BESS, synchronous condensers, wind, solar PV or converter-based generation; hybrid/co-located and grid-forming BESS experience would be advantageous.
  • Experience with RMS and EMT models and tools such as PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS®E or equivalent is desirable, although hands-on modelling expertise is not essential.
  • Knowledge or experience of NESO and DNO compliance processes, EON/ION/FON, UK standards and 132 kV, 275 kV and/or 400 kV connections would be advantageous.
  • Strong technical communication, stakeholder management and decision-making skills, with the confidence to work independently, challenge technical assumptions and escalate significant issues when required; Chartered Engineer status or progress towards CEng would be advantageous.
