Job Title - HPE NonStop Systems Engineer
Location – (Philadelphia, PA OR New York, NY) Onsite
Job Type: Contract

 

Position Purpose

The HPE NonStop Systems Engineer will provide ongoing administration, development, production support, maintenance, and enhancement services for Client highly available NonStop environment and its associated train-control applications.

This individual will work across infrastructure and application boundaries, collaborating with developers, system administrators, database specialists, QA analysts, operations teams, cybersecurity personnel, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors. The position requires someone who can understand how the operating environment, databases, application code, integrations, security configuration, and production processes work together.

The successful candidate will help ensure that Client HPE NonStop systems remain secure, stable, responsive, fault-tolerant, and available in accordance with established service-level agreements.

 

Key Responsibilities

HPE NonStop Systems Administration

  • Administer and maintain HPE NonStop/Tandem systems in production, testing, and development environments.
  • Monitor system health, availability, capacity, resource utilization, and performance to support continuous 24/7 operations.
  • Perform or assist with system startups, shutdowns, cold loads, failover activities, and recovery procedures.
  • Administer Guardian and OSS operating environments.
  • Use NonStop utilities and tools such as TACL, FUP, SCF, MEASURE, EMS, and NetBatch.
  • Create and maintain TACL scripts that automate operational tasks, monitoring, maintenance, deployments, and recovery procedures.
  • Configure and maintain users, groups, roles, permissions, file-access controls, and audit settings.
  • Support system security hardening and monitor for unauthorized access or suspicious activity.
  • Apply operating-system patches, firmware updates, security updates, and HPE software upgrades.
  • Coordinate patching and upgrade activities with development, QA, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and operations teams.
  • Support Pathway server classes, processes, configurations, and related application services.
  • Manage Enscribe files, file structures, access controls, and application dependencies.
  • Support CLIM configuration, IP connectivity, network diagnostics, and communication between NonStop systems and connected infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain backup, recovery, disaster-recovery, and business-continuity procedures.
  • Participate in recovery testing and validate that critical systems can be restored within operational requirements.

 

HPE NonStop Application Development

  • Analyze, modify, test, implement, and support applications running on the HPE NonStop platform.
  • Develop and maintain fault-tolerant, high-performance application components using technologies such as TAL, C, and C++.
  • Support real-time train-control, train-dispatching, crew-scheduling, and related operational applications.
  • Troubleshoot existing application code, identify defects, and implement reliable corrections and enhancements.
  • Participate in systems analysis, technical design, coding, testing, implementation, and post-production support.
  • Develop and maintain TACL automation scripts for application, batch, deployment, monitoring, and operational processes.
  • Work with NonStop SQL/MX and SQL/MP databases, including queries, stored data, schema objects, performance, and application access.
  • Integrate application components with Enscribe file structures and Pathway server-based services.
  • Estimate development tasks, identify dependencies, and contribute to release and implementation planning.
  • Develop unit, integration, regression, performance, and deployment-validation test cases.
  • Create source code, compiled executables, technical specifications, configuration instructions, release notes, and rollback procedures.
  • Apply secure coding practices and support audit, security, data-protection, and regulatory requirements.

 

Core Technical Qualifications

Candidates should possess hands-on experience with a meaningful combination of the following:

  • HPE NonStop/Tandem systems.
  • Guardian and OSS operating environments.
  • TACL scripting and automation.
  • FUP, SCF, MEASURE, EMS, and related NonStop utilities.
  • Pathway server classes and application services.
  • Enscribe files and file structures.
  • NonStop SQL/MX and/or SQL/MP.
  • Application development or maintenance using TAL, C, or C++.
  • NetBatch or comparable batch-scheduling tools.
  • System monitoring, performance analysis, and capacity planning.
  • HPE NonStop patching, firmware upgrades, and security hardening.
  • CLIM configuration, IP networking, connectivity, and diagnostics.
  • Production deployments, change management, and rollback procedures.
  • High-availability, fault-tolerant, and disaster-recovery concepts.
  • Troubleshooting mission-critical applications in a 24/7 production environment.
  • Integration technologies such as REST APIs, NSHTTP, or iTP WebServer.
