Job Description

Senior Signal Integrity Engineer High-Speed Hardware

Location: Santa Clara, CA Onsite
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Signal Integrity Engineer High-Speed Hardware to support the development of next-generation enterprise storage platforms.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in high-speed signal integrity simulation, 3D electromagnetic extraction, PCB channel analysis, and laboratory measurements. Deep experience with Simbeor and PCIe is highly desirable for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own signal integrity analysis for high-speed hardware from architecture through production.
  • Drive board-level SI decisions involving PCB materials, stackups, via structures, channel optimization, and signal-loss tradeoffs.
  • Perform SI simulations including:
    • Insertion Loss (IL)
    • Return Loss (RL)
    • Crosstalk
    • TDR/impedance analysis
    • Eye diagrams
    • Jitter and margin analysis
  • Lead TDR and S-parameter measurements, including measurement setup, calibration, and de-embedding.
  • Perform 3D electromagnetic extraction and simulation for vias, connectors, and complex high-speed channel structures.
  • Correlate simulation results with laboratory measurements and refine models and design assumptions.
  • Use and customize IBIS and IBIS-AMI models for PCIe and other high-speed interfaces.
  • Support hardware debug activities where signal integrity is a contributing factor.
  • Perform Power Integrity (PI) simulations and analysis.
  • Collaborate with PCB design, system, firmware, mechanical, and test engineering teams.
  • Evaluate system-level tradeoffs involving signal integrity, performance, mechanical, thermal, and power requirements.
  • Develop SI design guidelines, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Signal Integrity engineering for high-speed systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Strong SI simulation experience with PCIe and high-speed channel analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with TDR and S-parameter measurements.
  • Experience with measurement calibration and de-embedding.
  • Strong understanding of PCB design from a signal integrity perspective, including:
    • PCB materials
    • Stackup design
    • Via structures
    • Routing
    • Channel optimization
  • Deep hands-on experience with Simbeor for 3D electromagnetic extraction and simulation.
  • Experience with eye diagrams, jitter, signal margins, insertion loss, return loss, and crosstalk.
  • Experience using IBIS / IBIS-AMI models.
  • Understanding of Power Integrity and SI/PI interactions.
  • Ability to evaluate system-level design tradeoffs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced technical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SSD, NVMe, enterprise storage, or data-center hardware.
  • Experience with PCIe Gen4/Gen5.
  • Experience with NAND or DDR interfaces.
  • Experience with VNA-based measurements.
  • Experience with additional SI/EM tools such as HFSS, CST, ADS, or Cadence Sigrity.
  • Experience developing SI design guidelines and methodologies.
  • Experience leading cross-functional hardware development activities.
