Investment Officer - Financial Sponsor Debt Business The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is financing Infrastructure for Tomorrow in Asia and beyond - infrastructure with sustainability at its core. We began operations in Beijing in 2016 and have since grown to 111 approved members worldwide. We are capitalized at USD100 billion and AAA-rated by the major international credit rating agencies. Collaborating with partners, AIIB meets clients' needs by unlocking new capital and investing in infrastructure that is green, technology-enabled, and promotes regional connectivity.
Financial Institutions and Funds Clients Department, Global (FIF) is responsible for executing transactions with and expanding AIIB's client relationships among financial institutions and funds in the infrastructure sector globally. FIF works closely with financial institutions, private equity and debt funds, asset aggregation vehicles, and similar clients across the range of AIIB-covered sectors, geographies, and products to deliver the Bank's Corporate Strategy and targets. In addition, FIF focuses on the ongoing expansion of business, targeting opportunities that are aligned with AIIB's sectoral and product strategies, in particular the Strategy on Mobilizing Private Capital for Infrastructure and the Strategy on Investing in Equity. This includes investments in collateralized loan obligations and other structured products.
The Investment Officer will contribute to the origination, structuring, and execution of infrastructure private credit and other debt transactions with financial sponsors across AIIB members. The role requires strong hands-on experience in infrastructure financing, credit analysis, financial modeling, and transaction execution to support AIIB's mandate on sustainable infrastructure and capital mobilization. It provides broad geographical exposure across Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, with a focus on debt underwriting and execution alongside leading general partners (GPs).
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the origination, structuring, and execution of financial sponsor-backed green and sustainable infrastructure debt transactions, including private credit and co-lending opportunities.
- Undertake detailed financial modeling, credit analysis, and risk-return assessment, and prepare internal credit papers and investment memoranda for approval.
- Conduct due diligence across commercial; financial; legal; environmental, social, and governance; and technical workstreams in coordination with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
- Participate actively in the negotiation of term sheets, financing agreements, intercreditor arrangements, and other key transaction documents with sponsors, lenders, and counterparties.
- Take responsibility for assigned transaction workstreams through due diligence, internal approval, documentation, and financial closing.
- Monitor portfolio performance and compliance, including covenant tracking and risk rating updates.
- Contribute to the development and execution of co-investment strategies alongside approved GPs, with potential exposure to equity co-investments where relevant.
Requirements:
- Minimum eight years of relevant debt financing experience in infrastructure finance (e.g., project, corporate, or acquisition finance) or sponsor-backed investments in infrastructure, obtained at private equity or infrastructure funds, sovereign wealth funds, multilateral development banks, development finance institutions, investment banks, or commercial banks. Hands-on transaction execution experience is a must.
- Advanced degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related discipline. CFA or equivalent professional certification preferred.
- Sound knowledge of equity and debt financing counterparties in the infrastructure financing market.
- Demonstrated experience in structuring financing solutions across the capital structure, including senior debt, mezzanine, guarantees, and other credit enhancement instruments.
- Demonstrated track record of executing infrastructure financing transactions, preferably across multiple jurisdictions.
- Proven track record of executing transactions across emerging markets, particularly in Asia, Middle East and North Africa, and/or Latin America.
- Strong analytical, financial modeling, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to take ownership of assigned transaction workstreams and execute transactions effectively as part of a project team.
- Broad sector experience aligned with AIIB's priority areas, including energy (renewables, grids, storage), transport and logistics, digital infrastructure, water and wastewater, and other climate-aligned infrastructure is preferred.
- Familiarity with blended finance structures and private capital mobilization, including co-lending and co-investment alongside financial sponsors will be an advantage.
- Commitment to understanding client needs and contributing to tailored solutions.
- Ability to focus on long-term impact and integrate sustainability into transaction execution.
- Able to work effectively across teams and with external partners to achieve common goals.
- Excellent written and oral English language skills. Proficiency in French, Spanish, or Mandarin would be a plus.
