About Seton College:
Seton College is a new two-year college division of UMSV that will offer an associate’s degree for 100 students that have been historically underserved, who may require additional academic support, and who are motivated for post-secondary success annually beginning in the 2024–25 academic year. The program’s goal is to prepare students to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program or to begin their professional careers. Seton College students will study on the Riverdale Campus of UMSV and have full access to UMSV’s facilities and programs. Applicants may learn more about Seton College by clicking here.

Course Description:
SPAN 101–102:
This two-semester sequence (Spring 2026 will be the second semester) introduces the four foundational language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—with a primary focus on oral communication and comprehension. The course also offers an introduction to the cultures of Spanish-speaking communities. It is intended for students with little or no prior knowledge of Spanish or up to two years of high school study.
SPAN 202:
An intensive beginner–intermediate review course designed to strengthen listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students will engage with a variety of audio and visual materials to enhance language proficiency. This is a two-semester sequence, with Spring 2026 serving as the second semester.
SPAN 223:
A two-semester sequence (Spring 2027 will be the second semester) created for heritage speakers—students who grew up with some exposure to Spanish but lack formal language training. The course reviews grammar and vocabulary while building proficiency in reading and writing. It also deepens understanding of the culture and civilization of Spanish-speaking peoples.

Responsibilities:
Adjunct faculty will be responsible for classroom management, designing and teaching engaging class activities, and holding office hours with students.
- Teach 3–6 credits in area of expertise using evidence-based practices that support first-generation student success
- Provide students with an up-to-date syllabus and clear course expectations
- Create an engaging, inclusive classroom environment that fosters learning and academic excellence
- Participate in professional development and contribute to a collaborative teaching community
- Maintain regular on-campus office hours to support and advise students
- Master’s degree in the subject area required; doctorate preferred
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching and use of active-learning pedagogy
- Commitment to engaging students beyond the classroom experience
- Willingness to continuously improve teaching practices and collaborate within a learning community
- Strong commitment to serving a diverse student population, including underserved, minority, and first-generation college students
- Student-centered philosophy aligned with the mission of the University of Mount Saint Vincent to educate the whole person
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and presentation skills
- Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail
- Proactive and creative approach to problem-solving
- Experience working with HEOP students is highly encouraged
The allotted salary for this position is $1,100 per credit
