Job Description

Technical Lead – Electro Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Nottinghamshire
Salary: £40,000 – £55,000

The Company

Our client is a well-established, third-generation family business with a history dating back to the 1940's

They design and manufacture electric motors, pumps, gearboxes and specialist industrial equipment, supplying industries including mining, quarrying, food processing and manufacturing.

With around 110 employees, they offer a complete cradle-to-grave service, with design, CNC machining, fabrication, electrical assembly and testing all carried out in-house.

The Role

This is a hands-on, design-focused role where you will take ownership of mechanical design across vibratory motors and specialist plant equipment, while also getting involved in the electrical side of the products.

The role is predominantly mechanical design, with the opportunity to use and develop your electrical knowledge through motor testing, fault finding and performance validation.

Working closely with manufacturing, sales and other engineers, you will see your designs through from concept to production.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing specialist plant equipment and bespoke machinery
  • Producing 3D models and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks
  • Designing mechanical assemblies, housings, mounts and sheet-metal fabrications
  • Supporting the shop floor with manufacturing and design issues
  • Carrying out motor testing, fault finding and performance validation
  • Handling customer technical queries and complaints
  • Managing engineering changes and updating ERP systems
  • Supporting bespoke designs, product variations and new product testing

What We're Looking For

  • HNC, HND, degree or equivalent engineering qualification
  • Mechanical design experience using 3D CAD (SolidWorks beneficial)
  • Experience designing machinery or mechanical products incorporating electrical components
  • An understanding of how mechanical and electrical systems work together
  • Ability to work independently with minimal support
  • Good communication skills and a practical, hands-on approach
  • An interest in developing your electrical engineering knowledge

Desirable experience:

  • Electrical design or electric motor knowledge
  • Motor testing and fault diagnosis
  • ATEX and ISO 9001
  • Machining, fabrication or induction motor design principles

The Benefits

  • £40,000 – £50,000 salary, with up to £55,000 for strong electrical experience
  • Opportunity to take ownership of a specialist product range
  • Work across both mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Involvement in the full product lifecycle, from design to manufacture and testing
  • Join a stable, third-generation family business with a long manufacturing history

Why Join?

This is a great opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer who wants to broaden their technical knowledge and work on genuinely bespoke industrial products.

You will have the freedom to take ownership of your designs, work closely with manufacturing and develop your skills across both mechanical and electrical engineering.
