Senior Software Engineer Belfast | Hybrid - 3 days per week in the office |15% bonus | Permanent We're working with a fast-growing technology business that uses AI, data and technology to transform how insurance companies and agents acquire customers through digital channels. Their Belfast engineering team is responsible for a high-traffic digital marketplace that plays a critical role in the wider business. The platform is continually evolving, with a strong focus on functionality, performance, user experience and modern engineering practices. They're now looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the team following an internal move. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is early in their Senior Engineering career and wants to continue developing technically while working on a genuinely business-critical product. The Role You'll be joining a small, collaborative engineering team working closely with internal stakeholders to build and enhance a major customer-facing platform. The role is strongly front-end focused, with React and TypeScript at the heart of the technology stack. There will also be opportunities to contribute across the wider application, including some backend development. A significant part of the team's development environment involves AI-assisted engineering and agentic AI, with much of the current codebase being developed using tools such as Claude. You'll therefore be joining an environment that embraces modern AI-enabled development practices. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor more junior engineers and contribute to technical direction as you continue progressing through the engineering career ladder. What You'll Be Doing Building and improving high-traffic customer-facing web applications. Developing primarily with React and TypeScript. Contributing to backend development where required. Working across a modern cloud-based engineering environment. Using AI-assisted development tools as part of your day-to-day engineering workflow. Contributing to technical design and architectural discussions. Working closely with product and internal stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective technical solutions. Helping mentor and support junior members of the team. Taking ownership of projects and being able to clearly articulate your technical decisions and their impact. What We're Looking For We're ideally looking for someone with around 4-5 years of commercial software engineering experience, or someone who is at an early Senior Engineer level. You'll ideally have: Strong commercial experience with React. Excellent TypeScript skills. Experience building and maintaining modern front-end applications. Some experience with backend development. Experience working with AWS would be beneficial, although this isn't essential. A genuine interest in modern AI-assisted development and emerging engineering practices. Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns and technical decision-making. The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. A collaborative approach and strong relationship-building skills. Experience mentoring junior developers would be highly desirable. Most importantly, they're looking for someone who is technically curious, enjoys solving problems and is comfortable operating in a modern engineering environment where AI is increasingly part of the development process.
