Job Description

Senior Associate Solicitor - Medical Law
  • Leverage your legal skills in medical negligence matters with big firm support
  • Join a passionate team who really care about our clients
  • Get the flex you need, with work from home and flexible options

The Opportunity
As a Senior Associate in our Brisbane CBD-based Medical Law team, you'll be on the frontline as we doggedly seek justice. Our national team delivers justice for our clients who have suffered catastrophic back injuries, brain injuries, cosmetic injuries, birth injuries, delayed diagnosis of illness and children with cerebral palsy.

Reporting to the Practice Leader of our Queensland Medical Law team, you'll work on a range of matters where our clients have suffered life changing injury through medical negligence.

You will work from our Brisbane-CBD office with some of the best medical negligence solicitors in Australia, driving outcomes for clients who are advanced in the litigation process. We are offering this role on a permanent basis, and will consider flexibility, with a minimum of four (4) days per week for the right candidate.

This role suits a solicitor with solid personal injury litigation experience who is keen to build or continue a practice in medical negligence. Prior medical law experience is advantageous but not essential, provided you bring strong foundational litigation capability.

With compassion, connection and purpose, you'll truly champion our clients by:

  • Effectively assessing and strategically managing complex medical negligence matters, accurately weighing risk and driving strong commercial outcomes.
  • Providing clear legal advice and end-to-end representation in high-stakes claims to secure maximum compensation for our seriously injured clients.
  • Building trusted client relationships through clear communication and proactive management of expectations in sensitive matters.
  • Independently running a caseload, preparing complex legal documentation with precision and maintaining strong cost and recoverability oversight.
  • Coaching junior legal team members, and working collaboratively with paralegal and administration support staff.
What you'll bring
  • A Bachelor of Laws with a current practising certificate, or ability to obtain one.
  • Strong working knowledge of Queensland Law and legislation, in particular the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002 and Uniform Civil Procedure Rules 1999.
  • Experience litigating, with exposure to medical negligence matters desirable but not essential - we will support the right lawyer to build this expertise.
  • Well-developed analytical skills, including the ability to assess complex evidence and identify issues of causation.
  • An innate ability to question, challenge the status quo, and always stay ahead of the pack.
  • A commitment to truly connect with those around you and work together to deliver exceptional results for our clients.
  • The passion, motivation and enthusiasm to contribute to our culture and ensure it's a place where everyone can thrive.
Benefits
  • Connect and be you: Get the flexibility and benefits you need, and work alongside truly authentic people who care so much - about the clients, Shine and you.
  • Challenge and be challenged: We're not here for "easy". We want you to take your place at Shine and make a real impact. Question and challenge - that's how we grow.
  • Achieve and grow: Start your Shine journey with our in house learning programmes, where you'll find immediate connection and be set up for success. You will be provided real opportunities to step up and grow - within your role and beyond.

We are committed to maintaining a diverse and inclusive environment here at Shine that celebrates all of our differences with age, disability, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation, and we encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates. You bring you.
