Job Description

Systems Engineer (engineer / senior) £40,000 - 65,000 + benefits
Uttoxeter area, Staffordshire - 5 days onsite

Multiple roles exist for systems engineers to join a successful construction machinery manufacturing company in Staffordshire. The roles are open to engineer and senior engineer candidates.

Purpose:
To develop and deliver electrical and control systems for a range of hydraulic construction machine platforms.
This will entail definition of systems requirements and creation of technical specifications encompassing hardware and software elements. You will work with design and development teams to create solutions, support vehicle integration, test and validation activities. This is an end-to-end systems engineering role and you will take systems from concept to production.

Background: Systems Engineer
  • It is most likely you will have a background in electrical or electronic engineering.
  • You will have a broad range of skills and experience allowing you to contribute to all aspects of product develop and integration activities (e.g. systems definition, integration, physical troubleshooting and problem solving) - versatility and flexibility.
  • A small company, "many hats" approach to engineering would align best to this working environment.
The ideal candidate will come from a design, development, integration or validation background but must have the ability to develop systems requirements for electrical and control systems (e.g. logic circuits, ECUs and electrical distribution system / EDS). An understanding of software control would be very useful.
The role could involve handling any aspect of electrical and control systems for the machine, from driver controls and interfaces, through to hydraulics, powertrain integration, active / passive safety systems and more.

Skills / Experience required: Systems Engineer
  • A good degree in a relevant subject (e.g. electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering)
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in the design, development, integration or validation of electrical and control systems (e.g. schematics and harnesses for low voltage DC systems (e.g. 12v, 24v), hydraulic / pneumatic control utilising electronic control units (ECUs), etc)
  • Experience in the design of electrical distribution systems or electronic control systems for agricultural machines, construction machinery, automotive systems, off-highway vehicles (e.g. military vehicles) or complex machinery / mechatronic systems.
  • Demonstrable capability and aptitude for systems definition and creation of technical specifications relating to electrical / electronic control.
  • Good knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals (e.g. electrical load calculations and circuit theory) coupled with good problem solving skills (8D, FMEA, etc)
  • Experience of high reliability design taking into consideration water ingress, vibration, heat, impact, etc would be ideal
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a small team environment
NOTE: Aptitude and attitude is more important that specific product knowledge but candidates must be versatile, practical and be able to apply the basics to any given situation effectively.

These systems engineer roles are based onsite near Uttoxeter. Hybrid working is not supported. It is commutable from Rocester, Rugeley, Crewe, Stafford, Derby, Birmingham, Stoke-on Trent, Lichfield, Macclesfield and Burton-on-Trent.
