Job Description

Job Description Job Description

Sr. Financial Analyst - Contract

Location: add city/state and onsite vs. hybrid

About the Role

Our client, a well-established financial services firm, is adding a Sr. Financial Analyst to a tight-knit accounting team supporting revenue accounting. This is a contract engagement.

Worth saying up front: this is an accounting role, not FP&A. The work is fact-based - journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and digging into variances that have already happened - rather than forecasting, budgeting, or building projections. If your background is primarily FP&A planning work, this one won't be the right fit.

What You'll Do

? Support revenue and subsidiary accounting, including trade revenue and captive lending revenue

? Handle accounting for smaller revenue streams

? Process and record cash receipts

? Prepare and post journal entries

? Complete account reconciliations

? Perform variance analysis and reporting - research variances and explain what's driving them

? Manage daily, weekly, and month-end accounting activities

? Pull information together from multiple sources to understand revenue impacts

? Support process improvement work that streamlines and strengthens the accounting cycle

What You'll Need

Accounting Knowledge

? Strong foundation in accounting principles - debits and credits, revenue recognition, general accounting practices

? Month-end close experience

? Account reconciliation experience

Financial Analysis

? Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

? Ability to investigate variances and identify root causes

? Experience analyzing source data and financial reports

? Ability to connect business events, market conditions, and operational changes to financial results - for example, shifts in business activity driving revenue fluctuations, market-driven impacts, or interest rate and pricing changes affecting revenue streams

Technology

? Intermediate Excel - pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and formulas. This is a heavy Excel environment, so comfort building and maintaining large workbooks and data sets - accurately, every month - matters as much as the formulas themselves

? Ability to work with pre-built Power Query and SQL queries (you won't be responsible for creating data models or writing SQL)

? Power BI - analyzing data and using it for reporting

Who Does Well on This Team

Self-Starter Mindset

? Learns independently through documentation and available resources

? Takes ownership of finding answers before escalating

? Shows initiative in understanding processes and revenue streams

? Comfortable working with some ambiguity

Execution & Communication

? Picks up new processes quickly

? Executes accurately and thoroughly

? Meets deadlines consistently

? Manages competing priorities, especially during close

? Communicates knowledge gaps and asks questions when needed

? Explains complex financial analysis to a broad, cross-functional audience

Planning & Organization

? Manages multiple deadlines

? Prioritizes work during month-end close

? Balances recurring responsibilities with ad hoc requests

? Superior project management, organizational, and time management skills

Education & Experience

? Bachelor's degree and 6 years of experience in Finance, OR

? High school diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Finance

? Financial services industry experience is a plus, but not required

Backgrounds That Fit Well

? Revenue accountants

? General accountants

? Senior accountants

? Financial analysts with substantial accounting experience

? Audit professionals with strong accounting fundamentals

About the Team

This is a tight-knit, highly supportive group. They value collaboration and partnership across departments, open communication, and a team-first mentality - and they're genuinely open to new ideas and fresh perspectives on how to improve processes. Adaptability and a willingness to embrace change go a long way here.

There may be opportunity for overtime during peak periods, but it isn't required.
